Not bad at all, considering that we only passed the 1000 mark two months ago. So that's 2000 posts in two months; traffic is definitely increasing here, and it's good to see a large and varied number of regular posters. I hope to get the New Mars Index written eventually, and I have some ideas for perhaps getting New Mars members to do a World Space Week event (early October). More on that later.
That's all! You can get back to your posting now

I was really amazed at how much the boards changed in a month. I was totally gone for a month due to a trip and some computer trouble. When I came back the activity had doubled at least, and there were regular posts in almost every section. Congratulations Adrian.

Ah man, don't leave us hanging like that! Indulge us in the ideas you have for World Space Week, sounds like it might be fun.

Isn't it interesting that a full 50% of these 3000 posts are from just six of the most prolific posters on this board (you know who you are! )?
But I want to say "Thanks" to all of you who have made this board such a wonderful place to visit on the web... Keep up the great work people! This board has done more to open up my mind than any other I've come across...I can't imagine what this place will be like when New Mars reaches a thousand members..lol.

Adrian, I have a couple of questions about this board...Firstly, can you tell me a bit more about what the New Mars Index will entail? The idea of a comprehensive index on here sounds like a good one to me...
Secondly, I'm curious about the long-range plans for this board, particularily concerning how "old" topics and posts will be archived... Will old topics be "retired" after a certain period of time to make room for newer ones? The total number of posts on this board seem to be increasing like the US stock market did during the '90's, and there's going to be an awfully lot of material on here in the not too distant future...
Just curious, that's all...

There's more about the New Mars Index in this thread.
Right now, I have no plans to retire any of the threads. We still have plenty of space on the server - less than 25% of total storage has been used, and most of that's on web logs. It's far more likely that we'll run out of bandwidth (currently at about 40% of capacity) than space. But even that won't happen for a while, and if it does, well, something will be done about it.

I'm finally back from Mars (well, as close as you can get to it these days - the MDRS Utah base) and have noticed that traffic has rocketed here - nearly 10,000 posts! It seems like we might even be able to make it to 10k before the New Year. I wonder if we should do anything to celebrate.

Well, Zubrin basically made the decision to stop using the GreenHab as a grey water recycling system since it just didn't work and thus was dangerous.
Just a question - does anyone else here use Ikonboard 3 for their forums? I'm giving some thought to upgrading this board to version 3.1.1 (or 3.1.2 if it comes out soon) since they're supposed to be a lot more reliable - and maybe polls will work on them.
This would normally be a straightforward process, but I've had some bad experiences with upgrading Ikonboard in the past, as older members will attest to. Seeing as there are 10,000 posts here now, I really don't want to mess this up. I've seen several different way to upgrade the board, and it doesn't look too bad, but if anyone has any personal tips for the process I'd be glad to hear them.

Well, cant you back up what you have now, just in case? and if anything goes wrong, you can just restore the old data.

If you need help, let me know. I've installed and ran a bunch of Yabb scripts. I have a long history with CGI.

I'm getting a login problem on the main forum index, don't understand it at all. When I go to a specific forum, I'm logged in.

Ack, what the heck? It's working now.
Are you upgrading or something, Adrian? Heh...
...with my luck it'll do it again after I make this post.

Ahh, I figured it out.
If I go to http://www.newmars.com/cgi-bin....rd.cgi? I'm logged in.
But if I go to: http://www.newmars.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard/ikonboard.cgi I'm not!
Very weird behavior.
