*Developed by scientists at Goddard Space Flight Center.  Could be equipped on a future Mars rover.  Could generate 3-D images of fossils embedded within rock.  big_smile

Excellent!  big_smile
Such a pity the MERs don't have something like this in their exploration armoury right now. Ah well, maybe next time.  smile

Re: Mars Fossil Finder (NUGGET)

I just worked out where the water went. Theres an underground sea because the Olympus eruption hollowed out a large core volume. The next mission needs to map the entire planet using soundwaves. if there is an underground sea with Bacteria that would explain the vast methane production rates.

Re: Mars Fossil Finder (NUGGET)

The topographical maps show Olympus Mons to be on high ground.  Not just the three volcanic mounds but the entire plateau.  Even on mars water can't go uphill.

Re: Mars Fossil Finder (NUGGET)

It's possible, but no evidence has been found so far. The Mars Rovers Spirit and Opportunity proved that conditions were suitable for life as we know it, and that there was liquid water on the surface a long time ago. There's a new spacecraft called Phoenix that's on the way to Mars right now, it will look for traces of life just underground where there's water today.
