After a two day pause, built into the schedule, Trailbreaker will resume today with a try for 72000.
We then have an uninterrupted stretch to 78000 planned for the remainder of July, and part of August.
WBA has been upgraded to support the new Email Outreach initiative, so work will continue in development and testing of a script for that purpose.
***
Trailbreaker reached 72000 with a Green screen.
The login check is performed at the start of the procedure for each post.
At present, there is no reporting done by the new command, so if it activates there is no way to know.
It would be interesting to know if it ** does ** activate. I'll think about adding reporting to the feature.

For SpaceNut re Email Outreach campaign ...
The mechanism for automation of email for the Outreach initiative is in development.
Because of the size of the file to be transmitted, the existing method of uploading data to WBA for transmission is inadequate.
An attractive alternative is to forward an email, because only a few steps are required to fetch a saved email for transmission.
I am attempting to work out that might be done.
***
ReScan is currently running ... it was set to cover the series from 71001 through 72000.
Update at 19:37 local time ....
A test sending email from the NewMarsMember account revealed a small complication.
The email send feature requires that the full text to be sent must be present in the clipboard at paste time. There is no forwarding option.
I ** think ** I need a new command, along the lines of: AppendTextToClipboardZero.
Once data for the email has been collected in the variable ClipboardRowZero, then it can be copied to the system Clipboard, and pasted into the email.
I'll schedule a work session to add the new command tomorrow.
Update at 20:40 local time ... ReScan is still running ... the Internet must be tranquil this evening.
I thought some more about what it will take to perform the email outreach ....
As reported earlier, the text to be transmitted must be in memory at the time it is pasted into the email bodiy field.
However, WBA has no provision to load up more than a single line of text.
I've added to tomorrow's work plan two new commands:
ClearClipboard:# to empty out a clipboard row ahead of the Append command...
AppendTextToClipboardZero:abcde
This command can be executed as many times as needed
AppendASCIItoClipboardZero:### this is needed to store carriage return and line feed for readability.
That's more that a day's work at the current rate of production.

For SpaceNut re Post Repair and Email Outreach...
Trailbreaker is trying for 72300 today.
I just finished a trial run of a new email script, in manual mode.
Operating in the NewMarsMember account is different from operating in a moderator account. Tab counts are less, because the available buttons are fewer.
I'll run through the script again later today, to make sure it is solid, before I take it back to the development machine for final touches.
RobertDyck's adventures on the Internet dating scene are a revelation to me. It's been many years since I was "out there" in the world, and ** boy!!! ** things have sure changed.
However, I can definitely relate ... I drove hundreds of miles to meet someone I met on the Internet (via CompuServe, if I recall correctly).

Trailbreaker is aiming for 72900 today.
Work on a set of updates for WBA will resume shortly. Three new script commands are needed for the Email Outreach script.
The script itself seems solid and ready for live testing.
You have suggested updates to or modifications of the text to be sent to former members. Please post the revised text in this topic, when you have time to work on it.
Other news ... GW Johnson just finished the four files for the 11th presentation for the 25th Mars Society conference. This one is on use of his Space Tug concept to serve the near term Lunar Exploration activity. I am hoping the North Houston Chapter of NSS will bring this work to the attention of NASA, since they are "right there" next to a major NASA site, and several of their members have connections to NASA. I'm expecting to have the four new files ready for NewMars display later today.
Mars_B4_Moon has generating leads/ideas/reports at a prodigious pace, and I can't keep up with everything, but I ** really ** appreciate his posts about nanotechnology, because (as you know) it is a focus of my interest for cleaning water on Earth, as well as on Mars and in space.
Cleaning water with methods invented thousands of years ago is OK, but modern tools allow for the job to be done with precision instead of the crude tools available to us humans today.
It will take some work to achieve the molecule sorting system I'm seeing in my imagination, but the result will be WELL worth the effort.
Even the swimming nanorobots Mars_B4_Moon described in a recent post could do the job, but I'm assuming they would be less efficient (less productive) than the Amazon/FedEx/UPS package sorting warehouse I have in mind.
Update at 12:38 local time .... a first pass at adding code for the three new commands is finished.
I'll give the project a rest before coming back to step through the live code.
Meanwhile, Trailbreaker is approaching the end of today's run. I am looking forward to seeing what our creative authors from 2004 have in store.

Thank you for checking those links, and even looking at the documents.
Our contact at the North Houston Chapter of NSS expressed interest in them as well, so he and GW johnson are negotiating about a presentation date.
I would like to see this work ** somehow ** reach NASA ... It seems to me this set of ideas would accelerate the pace of accomplishment by the US, in competition with China.

Hi SpaceNut re #2384
Thanks for putting up with the development/testing phase.
The procedure to load the email text was failing, and a url was sent instead.
the good news is that everything else appears to have worked.
I've corrected the problem that caused the email text failure.
Now I'm working on setting up the mouse clicks for this script. Mouse clicks are far faster and more accurate, but the procedure to determine the location is a bit on the arcane side, and i am having to relearn how to do it. I had it working a year ago, when we were working on the TestID's, so after a year, i'm finding myself quite rusty.
never-the-less, as of a few minutes ago, I think I'm ** almost ** ready to nail the middle of three mouse clicks.
The first was still good after a year.
I just realized I'm logged in as NewMarsMember, which is needed for testing the email script.
Update at 21:25 .... the middle click is now working. The third click is the Email Send button.
It should set up more quickly now that I'm back in the groove.
The utility program allows the programmer to "drive" the cursor to the target.
It took me a long time to remember how to drive << sigh >>
OK ... live testing revealed ** another ** hurdle ...
tahanson43206 has NO location information
SpaceNut, RobertDyck and kbd512 all have location information.
Charming!
That means there are ** two ** locations for the Email button.
That means WBA is going to have to be enhanced to make another decision ...
At present, the only decisions it is making are to halt the run or to continue the run by skipping a post.
The new decision would be:
If the user has "location" on the Profile, then use xxx and yyy but otherwise use uuu and vvv.
Good Grief!
Update at 22:45 local time ....
The solution is easier than I'd hoped!
http://newmars.com/forums/profile.php?id=430138
Pull ID from profile url in address bar
Make http://newmars.com/forums/misc.php?email=430138
append numeric value to: http://newmars.com/forums/misc.php?email=
Put result in address bar
Send enter
No need for a mouse click at all!
Update a bit later ... this new strategy is ** much ** more efficient, but it ** will ** require a new script command.
PullIDfromAddressSave:# <<== this would pull the digits to right of "id=" and save them in the storage row indicated by #
It should be possible to put that command into the program tomorrow morning.

For SpaceNut re Post Repair initiative, and Email Outreach initiative...
Trailbreaker will be trying for 73500 today.
Following up on yesterday's reported "discovery" of a problem with using a mouse click to start the Send Email process...
WBA will need one and possibly two new commands ...
1) PullNumberFromFocusSaveRow:# I've expanded my thinking on this command to increase it's range for future applications
2) PasteTextFromRowToFocus:# This may already exist but if not, it will allow the output of (1) to be delivered as needed
The combination will handily solve the problem of a variable number of rows in the NewMars member profile reported yesterday.
These are both relatively simple commands to implement, so I am hoping to finish them both later today.

There appears to have been some congestion on the Internet today
Given 35 skips and 22 SpaceNut posts, the number of posts to visit would be 13, but more are showing up
Reconciliation will take a while!
In the mean time, work on the new command for WBA to support Email outreach is past development and ready for offline testing.
Update at 22:26 local time...
After studying the log from the earlier run, I decided the evidence seemed to indicate the Internet was choppy earlier today ... the chop was not bad enough to stop WBA altogether, but it caused a number of posts to become garbled on the way down from the server ...
I reran the series, starting with where the problems started, and the run was flawless.
Because ReScan was NOT performed after we crossed the 73000 threshold, I'll queue up Inspector for a full 1500 post ReScan.

A test run just now ** may ** have sent email to RobertDyck.
However, the attempt to send to you was blocked because FluxBB wants 60 seconds between email sends.
The attempt to send to RobertDyck appears to have succeeded because more than 60 seconds had elapsed.
However, the attempt to send to kbd512 failed for another reason, which I suspect was related to his name being last in the test file.
In any case, this is an encouraging test.
I'm still waiting for the update to the text you want to send...

A test email to tahanson43206 did not succeed, and it was not in the spam filter. I do not consider this a surprise or disappointing, because the email program has NEVER liked my chosen email provider and has NEVER sent (or almost never) sent email to that address.
I'm hoping the message might have gone through to RobertDyck?
Note: The 60 second spacing that FluxBB requested is not a problem, because I am suggesting we mail to no more than 10 former members per day, so the total run would be on the order of 10 minutes, give or take. I can put a 60 second Wait into the script, and we are good to go.

Subject: 20220804 Outreach Email from NewMars forum
NewMarsMember from New Mars Forums has sent you a message. You can reply to NewMarsMember by replying to this email.
The message reads as follows:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
I am trying to reach out again for you; a past Member of NewMars a Mars Society Forum.
Like many others we make aspirational statements and claims for what we would like to see and how we can be part of that. Yet our resources are not up to the task at this point. All space groups suffer from the same problem. I guess what I'm trying to say is that we are trying to build here an organization you can believe in. An organization that will (eventually) reache all of its goals.
Because of the onslaught of thousands upon thousands of spammers over 20+ years, the decision was made to close off access to inactive accounts. Unfortunately, the only mechanism available is the "banning" tool. If you are an older member and you find your account has been banned, it has been locked to prevent hacker access.
For all ... we really ** are ** looking for members who want to make a difference by helping others with projects or providing leadership on new projects. We have a ready supply of folks who can and will make comments and offer suggestions. We don't need more folks in that specialty. We ** do ** need folks who can and ** will ** help project leaders already trying to achieve something in the real world.
We are also happy to welcome you a former member back into the active community. It has been brought to my attention that a number of former members are marked as "banned". In many cases, this marking is a limitation of FluxBB, which is the forum software.
For existing registered members who have lost your password ... If you remember the email address you used to register, you can request a recovery email at that address. If you no longer have the email available (as could happen over 20+ years) just write to this email address.
Write to newmarsmember * gmail.com to tell us about your ability, if you cannot gain access to your old NewMars account to once more become an active member.
Your request will be forwarded to SpaceNut, who has the tools available to assist as needed.

For RobertDyck re #2391
Thanks ** very ** much ... the first detail I noticed is that there is an extra "e" in "reach" so I'll fix that! <done>
In addition, a key question was where the vertical format system is working.
The email has to be generated programmatically at update time, so my vertical spacing is half of what SpaceNut wanted. I'll fix that. <done>
If anyone else sees something that needs adjustment, please post a note about it.
In addition, SpaceNut has indicated he will be providing updates.
***
Late this afternoon, after dealing with the pesky mouse pointer, I ** think ** a test email went out to kbd512.
There were two issues ... There is a problem with end of file processing ... that is not critical but it is (mildly) annoying ... I just added a name after kbd512 in the test file and the program found him. More challenging is the fact that the user name kbd512 is shorter than any of the other usernames in the test set, and the mouse was landing to the right of his name. In that particular situation, FluxBB ** only ** responds to a click square on the username, so a miss by a whisker is as good as a mile (or kilometer for those so inclined).
Now that critically need feedback has arrived, I am through the initial testing period.
Thanks to RobertDyck and to SpaceNut for your patience.
kbd512 .... don't feel left out ... you only got ** one ** message (if you go any at all).
Update at 20:55 ... testing of the email script and new WBA command is complete.
The program and script are ready to go.
Pending are:
1) any further changes to the text and
2) a list of user names.
I propose to send email to no more than 10 former members within a 24 hour period.
This is primarily to insure that the NewMarsMember mailbox can handle traffic.
However, I admit that chances of a deluge of responses seems slim, after 20 years.

Best wishes for cooler weather, but NOT excess rain....
There is absolutely NO hurry about the email text.... the software appears to be ready for whenever you want to launch it. I'll be busy with Post Repair through late August, and will probably start working on the Auditor script, to recover Extended ASCII characters in the first 30,000 posts. It is not strictly necessary, since the question marks in place of the original characters do not prevent reading, but (as you may have noticed) I am a stickler for detail, so would like to restore those posts if I can.
Congratulations on reaching 72982 ... WBA is going to cross 73000 tomorrow, so we're neck and neck as we head into the finish line.
It's fun watching kbd512 and Calliban sending concepts back and forth, as they consider a variety of topics.
Mars_B4_Moon's been scooping the Internet again. I have difficulty keeping up.

Spacenut:
Sorry you are experiencing debilitating heat. It seems to be afflicting almost all the lower 48 this year. Try an evaporative cooler. Up to a point, they make a great deal of difference at very low energy cost.
It could be worse. You could be down here with me in central Texas. We have more than 40 days this year in the 100-106 F range, and about 33 of those straight in a streak. It's too hot in the afternoons even for the evaporative cooler to help much, and I have to set the AC in the house to a higher temperature just so it can cycle on and off.
We've seen no rain at all since March, and not much then.
I suppose that is the price we pay down here not to have to shovel snow.

Thank you, GW, I do have a son down there now experiencing that heat out towards Amarillo, who is now trying to adjust to it. It's that heat with humidity that makes it hard for many. We did have a thunder shower during the evening so it helps to start the day out cooler, but we will pay later for that added moisture. I still have green grass to mow, usually its brown by now.

Weather and air conditioning (by whatever means) are certainly appropriate for this topic.
However, it's back to business as usual .... For SpaceNut re Post Repair ... Trailbreaker will try for 74100 today .... 78000 is a target for August 19th.
Trailbreaker has been enhanced/tweaked to show more data in the log file. I am trying to understand how the Internet is knocking the laptop on it's ear. For the past two days, the tail end of the series has gone off the rails without stopping. One possible factor ** might ** be the accumulation of history by the browser. I clear the history before each run, but yesterday the history was on the order of 19 megabytes. That's about twice the normal amount.
The curious thing is that when I restart the run at the point of failure (after clearing the history) the run completes without incident.
Update at 15:20 local time .... Trailbreaker finished with a Green screen. The Verbose Log feature was turned on, in case the problem seen in the past two runs occurred again.
