For SpaceNut re collecting water on the roof using solar power...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CMR9z9Xr8GM
The gent who produced the video at the link above has a bit more creative capability than I do, but perhaps his example will give you some ideas. He mounted a plastic barrel on his roof, filled it with water using a solar panel to pump the water, and then harnessed the stored energy with a small water wheel.
He demonstrated design of 3D printer and CAD parts, and created them using a 3D printer and a milling machine.
Since your property has a gradient, you could pump water up hill. Since you live in a region were freezing is a concern, you could install the water reservoirs under ground.
A home owner on flat land could implement this idea in a vertical pipe.
This is a small scale version of the gigantic water water energy storage projects installed at a few locations around the world.

For SpaceNut ... you had a topic set up about computers, but the title does NOT container the word "computer*"
I thought there might be someone in the membership who might be interested in my observation about the web browser versions after the most recent update of Linux.... Linux is now running 22.04 5.15.0-76#83, and Chromium is version 114.0.5735.106.
What I find interesting is that FireFox is now updated to 114.0.2.
I have no way of knowing, but it ** seems ** possible the two browser development teams are cooperating to insure they are compatible in how they handle the challenges today's Internet throws at them.
Other browsers that I don't know about include Apple's Safari.
***
Upon reflection, perhaps I shouldn't be surprised ... Chromium ** may ** be Linux's version of Google's Chrome, so FireFox compatibility would make sense.

That topic seems to have an "invisibility cloak"
Nothing I tried was able to bring it up. I searched for computer and operating, and for combinations of the words.
FluxBB is acting as though that topic does not exist.
How did you find it?
OK SpaceNut ... how about ** this ** .... the topic was created in 2015 but it does not show up in the topics list in Meta, when sorted by date.

Good memory to topics I post to in the past...You can use a google advance search to find it as well.

Thanks for your reply ... I looked at the link to advanced_search but can't make anything of it.
I can't see anything that causes Google to work with the current web site, so I assume the search would go out into the entire Internet.
I ** did ** notice this: "Old computer and operating system issues"
Please note that you put the word "and" into the title.
But FluxBB uses the word "and" to combine words for a search.
I have reported to you that your topic title seems to be invisible to search.
It even seems to be invisible based upon date.
I wonder how many topics are also invisible?

The use of the word and is a connector term in Boolean structure so is the word must be added to a title you will be using it a second time.
I see also that advance search is looking in the topics and not just the title.

Thanks for the good news rain finally stopped! Hopefully the rain cleared the air of small particles!
Thanks for continuing to think about how search works! I am looking forward to your report of testing my hypothesis that you will not be able to find RobertDyck's topic about automobile's by using a topic only search. It seems to me you have demonstrated a variety of alternative solutions, and those are all good and valuable. However, I am concerned about possible failure that may occur in doing a topic-only search.
My reports recently have shown that I have NOT been able to pull up that topic using any of the tactics I tried.
The topic that I am NOT finding is: http://newmars.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=9685
Fixing Americas Car Industry by RobertDyck
A simple search for "fixing" did not work.
A simple search for "industry" did not work.
A simple search for "americas" did not work (note omission of apostrophe was preserved in search)

For SpaceNut re #3011
I decided to look at the address bar to see what the query looks like, when it fails:
http://newmars.com/forums/search.php?ac … rch=Submit
The parameter that jumps out at me is the search_in=-1
I'll set up the identical search but specify body rather than topic.
I had to use a keyword that does not exist in the forum, to be able to see the search query:
http://newmars.com/forums/search.php?ac … rch=Submit
So a search in the text works with search_in=1
I'll now try the same command with both topic and text ...
http://newmars.com/forums/search.php?ac … rch=Submit
The topic and text parameter is 0 .... search_in=0
So a parameter of -1 requests a search of topic titles only.
Total number of topics: 8,215
Total number of posts: 207,505
I doubt very much there is a problem the code in the search function.
It may not be able to pull a record under very unusual circumstances.
That topic of RobertDyck's appears to be "blessed" ? with whatever it takes to hide from the search function.

For SpaceNut re Topics ....
The latest Topic ID is http://newmars.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=10537
The count of active Topics is only 8,215
That's a ** lot ** of lost/missing/deleted topics.
This post is ID # 211727
The count of active posts is 207,514
Well, the count of missing posts is in the ballpark of what we found while doing the potholes checks, so I suppose the topics gap would be about twice the gap for posts.

I began to play with the string as you indicated "search_in=-1" and I changed the 1 to 0 leaving the - as well as removing it and it responds with topics that have RobertDyck's posts for all forum folders as its missing the "&forums%5B%5D=13" where the number is the folder for free chat

You need a decent modern computer able to deal with the weather conditions in New Hampshire.
Amazon has a gift feature. Please investigate to see how it works. You might be able to order a modern, powerful, resilient computer from Amazon, and secure gifts from forum members who would like to see you back on the air sooner rather than later.

Following up .... I had not previously considered using the gift feature of Amazon....
According to the quote below, it is possible for a Amazon customer to send a link to a gift item to a friend, and (apparently) that friend can pay for the gift item using Amazon's secure network.

Have that person make a wish list. They'll send you a link to it and you can purchase stuff off their wishlist and it'll be sent to them.•

Oh thanks! That seems pretty simple.

A computer might better be funded by something like GoFundMe, which would allow for smaller gifts to accumulate.

Apparently Amazon supports a group contribution feature ...
About Gift Card Funds
Friends and family members are able to contribute to a Gift Card Fund for your Wedding Registry or Gift List.Gifts, Gift Cards, and Registries › Wedding Registries ›
I don't know any more than what is posted above, but it sure ** looks ** as though contributions can be in small dollar amounts.
Let's start with the basics ... SpaceNut, do you have an Amazon account?
It is possible that since you live in New Hampshire, an Amazon account would be considered a frivolity (th)

After spending some time poking round on Amazon, I came to the conclusion that a gift contribution service does not exist, or if it does, it is hidden and must be accessed with a key of some kind. I wrote an email to Amazon Headquarters to ask about the feature. It is unlikely a response will arrive swiftly. On the ** other ** hand, I expect someone at Hq will eventually respond, even if the answer is just to say no.
I did point out that GoFundMe is able to provide this service, so Amazon ought to be able to do so as well, and cut out the middleman.
Update a bit later: Google thought that it would be possible to email Amazon at their headquarters, but Google would be wrong. I sent email to the address, and received a courteous decline. Basically there is NO pathway for an email to go to Amazon, if it does not match one of the options provided on the company web site. I ended up writing an old fashioned hard copy letter, and will drop it in the mail this weekend. I think that the idea of setting up a group gift option ought to appeal to ** someone ** at Amazon, but perhaps not.

The link above will bring up a short video about a small boat exploring Southeast Alaska.
The author is a member of the Knowledge forum, where Terraformer has a membership as Cererean.
I've invited the gent to join NewMars, but so far he's resisted the opportunity. He's got a ** lot ** going on.
I'm hoping this gent will find a student for Dr. Johnson's class. Chances are not good, because the community where he lives is small, but on the other hand, all it takes is ** one ** student to bring GW's work to life.
Update the next day:

I saw a passerby drop a bill into his bucket, so I guess all that effort must pay off.

According to New Hampshire Public Radio, severe flooding was a possibility in New Hampshire on July 10th. SpaceNut has reported in the past (and recently) about flooding washing out part of the road in his neighborhood. He reported subsequently that the washout had been filled, but it may well have returned. Hopefully SpaceNut will be back online in the not-too-distant future to report on events.

Thanks for logging in via phone !!! Best wishes for success in finding a replacement power supply!
I have multiple still-working power supplies from systems I've upgraded over the years. What are the specs for the one that failed?
Or! Just find what you need on Amazon, set up a gift opportunity for that item, and one of us will be happy to take care of the purchase.
This situation has dragged on long enough! You missed all the fun!
