Number/letter-like petroglyphs on Mars

This is probably one of the most remarkable photos ever taken on Mars. 

Remarkable on two points:

First, it seems difficult to maintain these are natural markings, all in a line, formed by wind or water.

Second, the "rock" itself appears to have a lot of symmetry about it with what could be a central arrow marker at the centre...the hypothesis that this is a waymark, direction sign, or maybe trig point seems not unreasonable.

I feel it is more the case for doubters to explain why this is "natural" rock.
