Earthquake tsunami in India.
Could a Earthquake of this size have caused a mountain to be thrust up in a different region of the world and cause this accident?

If a mountain is thrust up in an area then that area would be the center of an earth quake

this page references a few minor quakes that have happened since the big one
I has some other comments as it is from a blog site also.
Have not found any reference as to how high this supposed mountain was.
Edit
US Submarine Ran Into Apparently Uncharted Undersea Mountain
A senior defense official, who asked not to be identified, told AFP initial reports were that the submarine was cruising at high speed at a depth of about 120 meters (400 feet) Sunday when it ran into an uncharted sea mountain.

I heard a 4000ft trench over there is now only 100 ft deep. Is that true?

Looks like the odds of this is zero!

Well, such changes can happen near where the earthquake was. However, the submarine was much farther away than that.

Those reports of tremendous changes in the depth of the sea are all unconfirmed at present. I still find it very difficult to believe they're accurate.
Maybe people who don't normally bother checking depths have been moved to try it because of the tsunami and have mistaken their positions when doing the measuring.
I think I'll wait for the official marine topography investigations. :;):

3900 ft difference. Wow!

It seems unlikely that a 4000ft mountain could suddenly rise up out of ocean floor. However, if you have a 4000ft high cliff and it got moved a few feet to the side, it would have the same affect. If the reports are accurate, then that is probably what happened.

Perhaps there were underwater land slides. This could have happened in many locations near the center of the earthquake with fewer at greater distances, of course.
Just a thought.
