Re: Hacker?

*Adrian/Mods:

I can't access the boards through New Mars.  Everything was fine earlier today; have been offline for 2 or 3 hours.  I tried accessing the message boards through New Mars on one of my computers; I received a "fatal error" message and had to click "OK" to close it out.

Figuring it was something wrong with that computer, I tried my other computer (the one I'm currently using):  Same result.

A web address showed up in the task bar (?) as I tried to access via New Mars the last time:  http://ddteam -- something; "ru" was in it too.  It definitely wasn't "opening http://www.newmars.com]www.newmars.com."

Just thought I'd mention it.  Was able to access the boards via Mars Society web page.

Also, the boards have been somewhat glitch-ridden lately.  If I'm in the Inbox and click on "Sent Items," I'm taken back to the boards.  I clicked on a folder the other day, only to be taken automatically all the way back 33 pages and to the first threads in the folder.  It happened again the next day.  There's one other glitch I noticed, but I can't recall and didn't write it down.

Re: Hacker?

*Thought I should mention again that the error message continues upon trying to access the boards through the New Mars web site.  Of course I can still get here via Mars Society web page.

It's the same error message, which informs me an "exception" has occurred.  I'm then asked if I want to "report" the matter (Send/Don't Send); I click "Don't Send" and the window closes completely.

New Mars is the only web site I'm having this trouble with.  ::shrug::

Re: Hacker?

Hmm. I've tried accessing it from the New Mars main page a few times and haven't had any problems, though there does seem to be an activeX control of some sort that it wants to load. I'm not sure if it's always been in there or not, most likely it has but the newest Windows update is better at blocking every little thing that comes up.

If it persists, try pasting

http://www.newmars.com/cgi-bin/ikonboar … nboard.cgi

into the address bar, it'll bypass the mainpage entirely and go directly to the forums. Other than that, I'll keep looking into what else might be going wrong and let Adrian know if I find something serious.

Re: Hacker?

I removed the link. It may be a new Moveable Type exploit, I'll have to look into it. You should probably check out your computer for updated virus definitions and such. Or don't use Internet Explorer (that will decrease the likelihood of something getting you by many magnitudes).

Thanks for pointing this out Cindy, and I'm so sorry I didn't see it sooner. We'll have to grock over server logs. I may do that, but I'm on my way out (in fact I am risking my job being here, atm).

But don't panic too much, this could be a really old remnant of that time we did get hacked, but it's only showing up now because that Russian site is no longer in DNS.

Thanks guys.

Re: Hacker?

*No problem Josh.  I'm able to access with no problem via New Mars again.  However, in a previous window (in which I read a couple of posts), I attempted to exit New Mars via entering a different web site...and that error message occurred again.  :-\  It knocked out/completely erased a word document I had open (which of course is unrelated to New Mars).

I just now opened this new window.  I clicked on New Mars, went to a different web site, came back.

But again, that error message did pop up again and my word document got fried.  :hm:
