Re: Russia's supposed counter to missile defense

The Russians claim to have tested a hypersonic vehicle that could defeat an American missile defense system.  Initial reports are that the vehicle was a warhead with attitude-control thrusters.

I remain a bit skeptical about the claim.  The Russians haven't given a lot of information about this reentry vehicle, and they did say the vehicle "ceased to exist after re-entry."  A sign the vehcile disintegrated?  The vehicle wouldn't be impossible to build (the X-20, after all, was envisioned as an unstoppable nuclear delivery system,) but can it be built to reliably counter the Ground-Based Midcourse Interceptor system or a possible follow-on?

Who needs Michael Griffin when you can have Peter Griffin?  Catch "Family Guy" Sunday nights on FOX.
