Re: getting mars oxygen - Is mars regolith Iron Oxide?  If so...

Is the surface of Mars (which makes it red) made of Iron Oxide?  If so, can the O2 be extracted?  If we could do that we'd have Oxygen (for us) and Iron (to build with).

Conveniently powdered, ready for smelting.

===========================

Martian Atmosphere:

95.3 percent carbon dioxide    -78.5 °C    sublimes
0.2  percent oxygen               -183 °C     evaporates
1.6  percent argon                 -185.9 °C  evaporates
2.7  percent nitrogen              -195.9 °C  evaporates

Freeze out CO2
Liquify the required O2.
Liquify some Argon to get breathable percentage ?

The nitrogen could be used to make ammonia fertilizer.
