*I'm wondering of any of the astronomers (pro or amateur) here have used one of these from Thousand Oaks Optical (or other company)?
Orion Telescope Co. criticizes these filters, saying they "easily crack." Of course, OT has their own line of solar filters (which fit over the front of a telescope) -- competition, so of course they're going to criticize.
The H-Alpha are very expensive. However, they show all sorts of detail (not just solar disc and spots).
Comments? Feedback would be appreciated. I'm wondering about performance, durability, and ease of use.
I'm considering buying a small 'scope just for solar astronomy use, with an H-Alpha (my current scope doesn't have the required focal ratio).
