Re: Crisis on Mars - Ouch

Suppose we have a colony on mars early in development.  Say a riot occurs or some gangsters take over mars, it would take the people on mars a week or two just to get up there to help, by then it's too late.  Would it be possible that mars could become an enemy?

Re: Crisis on Mars - Ouch

Hey Greg, hope you read the other threads here, I'm sure the subject has come up more than once. smile

You couldn't really do anything about a riot, especially if it had a majority of the colony participating. The question is whether or not people would have reason to riot. Personally, if they do, then I feel that the colony wasn't suiting them, and the colony structure wasn't viable in the first place.

The colony would need either one of two things, either fairness (so no one gets put in a position to riot), or a police state. Pick your choice.

It's always possible that if you have an independent body of people, they can become an enemy. You can either accept the possibility of that, or you can try to enslave them to make sure it doesn't happen. Basically I concur with Josh.

I guess they'd have to deal with it somehow.

Would it be possible that mars could become an enemy?

An enemy of whom? In what timeframe?
