The ones with the most expatriots, of course! They can get away with expressing their views, without being jumped on (and worse) by the religeous right.

Re: The Political Compass - An interesting site

I'm thinkin, since Gennaro and Shaun scored as good Americans, and so many of our American participants came out liberal airheads... Maybe some sort of exchange is in order  big_smile

But which country has the most "good Americans?"...

*Well, we've got to keep in mind that the rating of "good American" is based on the standards of the person/people who created this test.  tongue

And remember, CC, you said I'm a liberal but "by no means an airhead," in your opinion.  wink  (I'm holding you to that compliment!!)

But anyone who would call a lefty a "liberal airhead" can't be too far off. big_smile
And of course you can hold me to that compliment, I'm not officially a politician yet  big_smile

And I've exceeded my smiley quota for the day.

Another test - this one on "libertarian purity" - whatever the "bleep" that might be. . .

= = =

Might it be [cool] or [dorky] to launch a webpage that links as many of these political tests as possible, all in one place?

51 points, just barely a "medium core" libertarian, whatever that means. Like a medium steak I presume.
But not pink in the middle, like clark's score  big_smile

Re: The Political Compass - An interesting site

*Well...good point.  Let's see how this works:

Shaun and I agree quite a bit on space exploration issues and other issues (not so much outright terrestrial politics though)...yet we've scored very differently on these political tests.

Clark and I seldom agree on anything, yet we score close on these sorts of tests.

Okay.  Whatever.  !!

*This is -funny-.  smile  Byron, not surprised...given that "wavelength" similarity and all.

As for Bill:  "Uh oh, I got an 11.  Yet my Political Compass Libertarian/Authoritarian score was far more libertarian than many of you others.

Maybe these questions are just stupid."

*  Well, they definitely seem rather, um, how to say it...SLANTED??  Yes, that's the word I'm looking for.

Shaun:  "I got 19 points. (Soft core libertarian - just 19 points shy of "Nazi nut"!!!)"

*Really??  That's very different from the previous test, huh?  I'm surprised.  And to think for a while I was wondering if you and Cobra Commander are in cahoots.  wink

Shaun:  "[It's a pretty crude test, of course, because so many of the questions had me thinking "well, yes ... in certain circumstances, but mostly no". Many questions just don't have a sensible unequivocal yes/no answer.]

*Yes, agreed.

Re: The Political Compass - An interesting site

My score was 155. smile

The only thing I answered "no" on was the last question. The rest of the questions I interpreted best I could. Since it was so slanted, however, I had to be liberal with my interpretations of what was asked. :;):

As Cindy said: Well, they definitely seem rather, um, how to say it...SLANTED??

I love it when people are on their high horse though and make quizes like that.

The funniest thing about that page is how they distinguish "sub-contracting" from "privitizing," when in every sense of the word, they are identical. Paying a police force to protect my property is a tax whether it comes out of my paycheck or rent or what. At least in the case of the government, monopolies can be hedged (note that the word "monopoly" wasn't used anywhere on that page; why? because monopolies pretty much divide anarchno-capitalists / Libertarians).

Ha-ha !!
I think CC and I probably think along similar lines but maybe he's just a tad more authoritarian(?). We're not actually "in cahoots" though, Cindy, in any meaningful sense of the word!   big_smile
[But he and I could probably form the nucleus of a magnificent government that would propel humanity and civilisation to unprecedented heights ... a little bit of blood along the way ... not too much!!   tongue  ]

Interestingly enough perhaps, I toyed with the idea of suggesting that Josh would get close to a perfect score on the last test (160 points).
I resisted the temptation on the grounds that I might be perceived as snide or politically provocative.
I'll just bet he's wondering how he missed those last 5 points, too!!

Josh--

You mean you're not an "anarcho-capitalist"??... tongue

I'm still reeling over the fact that you answered "yes" to every question but one...too bad the last group counted for 5 points each..lol.

But yeah, these tests really don't measure how people feel about various issues...it's the "gray areas" that count the most in things like this...

It's fun to compare and contrast the scores of various members on this board, though... smile

Re: The Political Compass - An interesting site

Shaun Barrett, hah, really? I thought that it was obvious that the intent of that test was to be rather conservative economically, liberal socially, and minimalist govermentally; I'd think you'd know by now I'm not really conservative economically speaking, but since the test can really be read either way economically, I can still vote the way they think they want me to vote. I'd probably have a brawl with 'em if we were to work out the finer details (believe me, it's almost happened before!).

Byron, sure, why not? No taxes sounds good, for example. If you can do it without destablizing society, which of course was the assumption I made since the test seems to assume that to be the case (I think an "anarchno"-capitalist society would be quite unstable, however, so I must not assume it to exist within the confines of "anarchno"-capitalism).

If the test was being mostly general, like at least one must give the "Political Compass" credit for being, such as saying "No taxes, strongly agree, mostly agree, partially agree... etc" I would have been compelled to answer "partially agree," probably.

Ahh well, don't mind me, I read in to things far too deeply at times, I'm told. Easiest test I've ever taken, tho. :;):

I agree wholeheartedly! 6 billion to go, give or take.
Actually I'm not very authoritarian at all, except in certain rare cases when called for. Every once in a while someone needs to have their head cracked.  ???  Unfortunate, but undeniable.

My understanding of the Libertarian position on taxation, which is essentially my own opinion on the matter, is that taxes aren't inherently evil but should not be forced on people. For example, excise taxes and sales taxes are okay, but not income or property taxes. The former two you can avoid by not buying the product or engaging in the taxed activity, the latter are forced upon you unjustly and cannot be escaped. One could even argue that income tax is part-time slavery, but I digress.
