Re: The Political Compass - An interesting site

This site, [http://www.politicalcompass.org/]The Political Compass, offers an interesting twist on the usual "liberal/conservative" or "left/right" labels.

Re: The Political Compass - An interesting site

I've always preferred the "burrito" model myself, though there are clear similarities here. The two edges fold into each other and in the middle you have all sorts of ground up, mixed meat and other assorted slop.

And it's hard to stomach at times.

After answering the questions, I came damn close to the center, with a one-square leaning towards right/libertarian. Guess I'm better adjusted than some would like  big_smile
Of course it evens out the spikes.

About a year ago someone sent me this link, for reasons some can probably guess right off:
Kind of interesting in a related way. Many similar questions, but a few gems. More straightforward analysis too.

"You are disciplined but tolerant; a true American."

Hey, they aren't my tests, I'm as surprised as anyone else.  big_smile  No, not really.

*Cobra Commander, you should come to New Mexico for really good burritos.  Taco Bell doesn't cut it.

I'll go ahead and take that "F scale" test, even though I already see the bigger picture:  All other nations on Earth are absolutely wonderful and enlightened; bin Laden is a misunderstood "regular guy" whose genocidal statements (that he would like to see all Americans dead) should be swept under the rug and giggled at; I'm evil and horrible because I'm an American; America is rotten, shameful, and bad, bad, bad -- a nation which has never done a nice or worthy thing in its entire history.

Now, let us all join hands and grovel together.  :-\

Re: The Political Compass - An interesting site

I am fond of question #6

Every person should have complete faith in some supernatural power whose decisions he obeys without question.

This question, of course, implies a corollary. Your local minister/priest/TV evangelist has direct access to knowing what those decisions are. Helped by astrology, which will someday be proven to genuinely predict our lives. big_smile

Best wishes from "A liberal airhead"    :;):

Re: The Political Compass - An interesting site

Should it be strange that my results are close to Nelson Mandela ...

And I'm from South Africa?  ???

Guess it something in the air.  big_smile

:EDIT:

Even more strange - on The F Score I get 3.16666 - "The Perfect American"  roll

I prefer to believe that you are Nelson Mandela.

Horribble bit about that jailing thing.  big_smile

Edit: The perfect American? I guess that means you need to surrender your passport, stop voting, and super size every meal. Also, you should enjoy graphic depictions of violence, but yell bloody murder about the declining morality of entertainment becuase of the lewd sexuality that is always displayed.

Re: The Political Compass - An interesting site

Well in Bill Bryson's book of "A Short History of Nearly Everything" he contends that, given enough time most of us have billion or so atoms from a deceased "great" person. (Given that they have been deceased for a while)

So it's destinctly possible that you are some former Dalia Lama (at least a couple of them) ...  big_smile

Just barely. 0.1666667 less and I would have been a liberal airhead.  big_smile

It cuts something, that's for sure...

You are certainly not a liberal airhead, Cindy. Liberal perhaps, but by no means an airhead. big_smile

About 0.167 difference between "Perfect American" and "Liberal Airhead?" Now that's cause for concern.

The big flaw on these tests is that they blend all the responses together for an average, so people that answer "agree/isagree somewhat" to everything score the same as people who answer "strongly agree/disagree" to various questions, as I did.

I guess we still have to get to know individual people before we label them.

Re: The Political Compass - An interesting site

I find it interesting (and sensible, really) that it seems more "leftists" are libertarian than "rightist." Of course, I haven't taken the quiz in awhile, and I don't care to, anyway.

edit: okay, I went and took it...

Economic Left/Right: -4.62
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -7.90

I have a couple of gripes with their assertion that Ayn Rand was one who championed "anarchism," as she outright bashed anarchism on several occasions. But since their concept of authority is more general really, it doesn't matter.

Re: The Political Compass - An interesting site

In case anybody's interested, on the Political Compass I came out almost on the graphical origin: -0.46 on the vertical axis (not really authoritarian or libertarian) and -2.12 units left of centre.
The F-test gave me a score of 3.33333 ... a good solid American, apparently!

Re: The Political Compass - An interesting site

My Political Compass score:

Economic Left/Right: -2.25
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -2.46

This score puts me in the Libertarian Left quadrant of the Compass, surprisingly close to the center.  This placement is consistent with my view that George Bush and his cronies are a bunch of maniacal fascist thugs.

Re: The Political Compass - An interesting site

Haven't taken the political compass test in a while, but just so that nobody should be left in the dark about my political dispositions I scored:

- 4.12 on the economic Left/Right axis. That's pretty far to the left...

and

+ 1.74 on the "Social" Libertarian/Authoritarian index, which makes my general worldview mildly Authoritarian.

Seems to fit quite well with what I've personally coinaged "Right-Wing Socialism". In fact the results were kind of close to Pope John Paul II... Yes I know, I'm a paternalistic conservative pain in the ass.
cool

The F-scale? Only problem with the F-scale is that it purposely misunderstands Fascism. Oh by the way, I was obviously a stable, sane and disciplined true American.

Seems like everyone purposely misunderstands fascism. If you listen to the American Left we've got fascists running all over America!

I'm thinkin, since Gennaro and Shaun scored as good Americans, and so many of our American participants came out liberal airheads... Maybe some sort of exchange is in order  big_smile

But which country has the most "good Americans?"...
