Lifting Body Design Construction Operation Takeoff Landing

SpaceNut, we did not have a topic dedicated to Lifting Bodies...

This topic is offered for NewMars members who might wish to contribute to a collection of knowledge, including links, images and text.

The inspiration for this new topic comes from multiple posts by kbd512, Calliban, PhotonBytes and GW Johnson, and if I've missed someone please let me know.  The need for a lifting body arises in the context of a concept for a Tangent Launch concept, which would include a 2 G acceleration phase suggested by Calliban.

The lifting body must have sufficient lift at just under Mach 1 on Earth at sea level to be able to hold the craft aloft upon release from the Stage Zero launcher so that the rocket engine can accelerate the vehicle to sufficient velocity for ramjets to become effective.

In addition, since the context of the inquiry is SSTO, we have the opportunity to plan for a safe return from orbit, so the lifting body needs to be able to fly in the landing phase.

PhotonBytes has published an image that provides a starting point for thinking about this topic.
