I just wanted to say hey, I'm going to be taking a break from the internet for an indeterminate amount of time. I don't really have anything special to say, except that I've enjoyed my time here at New Mars. I've been posting here since the beginning, I still recall the old Mars Society forums and the banter that went on there, always posting anonymously, until New Mars was set up as the Mars Society official forums (I actually recall New Mars existing as a journal before then, and recall reading that old article written by that young female Mars Society member, it was great, I wonder what she's up to these days, maybe someone could get up with her).
clark, the bet still stands, I'm not avoiding it. Don't be a big baby troll, while I'm gone, okay?
Shaun, your posts here have always been very moderate, much to my liking, at least as far as politics goes. Otherwise you've been one of my favorite general posters for being all over the boards without really getting in the way. And don't take that the wrong way, but some posters have a tendency to just hijack threads (see: clark).
Cindy, you're our only female poster, and your regularity is something that always made me happy. Your nice PMs from time to time have always made my day, and your policing the forums in a gentle way has kept the place in check, despite its lack of rules and regulations.
Bill White, you've always had an opinion that I've agreed with, I've never really discussed things with you which I had any major qualm with. I did read those PMs you had sent me before, but I never got around to commenting on them. Well, I think you're a great writer. And I think you should keep up your projects. You're the ideal New Mars poster, someone commited to Mars Society ideals, but not too radical or persistant to scare people off.
Adrian, you never post that much anymore, but somehow your presence is still felt. You've done the Mars Society and the posters here at New Mars a great service by being the primary caretaker and getting this place started. I have no doubt in my mind that if the old forum software was still used, New Mars wouldn't be the place that it is and the Mars Society wouldn't have such a great coundit for its message. That is, the most prolific Mars related space forum on the internet. Bar none. BTW, backups are broken and you have to ssh into New Mars to tar them up, I don't understand why, but maybe I'll make one last backup before I go.
Rxke, I don't know you very well, because I slowed down my posting when you arrived here, and to that I have many regrets. I wish I could keep it up but I can't, and I need to take a break from the internet, but I do hope that in the future I do get to know you better. I do think that your english is very good, however, and I don't think you should be so down on yourself when you have something you wish to say. Your comments have always been informative and on topic, and really, you would in my opinion be the ideal foreign language poster here. Someone who tries their best to be understood, and manages quite well.
dicktice, stay healthy my friend, I hope you're doing good. You too have contributed a lot to New Mars, and some of your posts will linger with me for the rest of my life. You always manage to have a very high information density in your posts, and they're always a joy to read.
dickbill, you make me laugh. You're French. And I love the French. Look to Rxke, okay? He's a bit more coherent than you my friend! (I tease!)
Cobra Commander, I don't think I've gotten into many spats with you, but you seemed to have joined after my anarchist bent early on on these forums. Perhaps another time! You make a great mod, and I'd appoint you admin right this minute if I felt it was my call, but yeah. Warning to 5 effectively bans posters, so you do have all the powers you'll ever need.
GraemeSkinner, I like that you've taken on the job of doing monthly updates of New Mars, and I hope you leave this post out of the next one, because it's not all that important, and I will be back eventually.
There are many many other posters who have come and gone over the years. Some have eaten up so much of my time during stages of unemployeement (which I will confess I have had a few) that I doubled my post count in a month or so (besting our most prolific poster Cindy by many posts!). But since many never post anymore they needn't my recognition or thanks. But know that if you're not on this list your ideas and thoughts meant something to me. We're Mars enthusiasts! We naturally enjoy the presence of other like-minded individuals.
I'm not leaving due to anyone here, and I am by no means tired of New Mars or the Mars Society, or space hobbies in general. I'm leaving for entirely other reasons. Goodbye my friends.
You may reach me at joshcryer@gmail.com and my other address josh@fakeshemps.com, the former of which is much more likely to garner a response due to the flakey server on the latter. It may take me awhile to respond.

I hope its just a short break

I'm sure plenty of people here will remind him the bet is still on.

It'll be left out if thats what you wish, no problem.
Take care Josh, come back soon.

Dear Josh,
This is an unexpected blow to us all at New Mars.
I think we've had a few disagreements over the years but nothing which could ever seriously stand between us. I am genuinely saddened to hear you may be away for some time and I join the others in wishing and hoping that you'll keep us in mind and come back to us as soon as you possibly can.
New Mars can't afford to be losing too many people of your obvious wit and intelligence. ???
I was very touched by your kind words about me in your last post and I'll be thinking fondly of you in your absence. Thanks for everything you've done for all of us and especially for me.
Hoping to seeya soon ol' buddy.

Sounds like a goodbye, like you're going to be away for a long while.
You'll be missed here,
Take care, pal. Even if I don't know you that well, I like your style.
Lately, I myself 've become more of a lurker, not enough time and on expensive dial-up, but I'll miss your postings for sure...

It would appear that being an Adminstrator on this board is something of an eventual death sentence.
First Adrian, now Josh.
Quite the disease we have here. Well, let me say goodbye to Cobra and Bill in advance.
It's only a matter of time...
