For SpaceNut ... we did not have a topic that contains those two terms in the title
This topic is inspired by recent work of Calliban, with a background of previous work done by GW Johnson.
Calliban is thinking about an advanced nuclear propulsion system, far more capable than was NERVA.
GW Johnson has created detailed studies of space transportation scenarios, including the LEO and LMO circuit.
A distinguishing feature of the designs by GW Johnson with respect to Large Ship (see RobertDyck et al) is the use of powerful Space Tugs at each end.
In one notable study, GW showed that a Space Tug from LEO could give the Large Ship a boost to just under escape, so that Large Ship would need to perform only minor acceleration to put itself on a Mars intercept path.
this new topic is dedicated to the theme of LEO / LMO transportation methodology, and any new technologies that may come along, as well as established ones.

Since the earths radiation belts are hazardous to man, we must make use of a stage to push man away from earth as spiraling out with slow ion propulsion is risky to man's health.
This is an Earth departure stage.
Once on the coasting to transfer to mars we will again need a breaking method to enter a LMO as well. Where we are trying to not use fuel to do rocket breaking but will make use of a heatshield and air braking through cutting into mars atmosphere.
