Gold Hydrogen, Geologic Hydrogen, Natural Hydrogen, etc.

I don't recall if we have a topic for Natural, White, Geologic, or Gold Hydrogen.  I looked.

This of course would be very valuable on Mars if there is any.  We can think it could be, as it seems likely that water seeped into the crust a long time ago.

I have my eye on this in North America: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natural_hydrogen

He finishes on a doubtful note, but we will see.  If it is real, we want to look for it on Mars, and maybe even the Moon, as the Moon did hold an atmosphere at one time, there would be some chance of liquid water seeping down in to the Moons interior.  It would certainly be a long shot for the Moon, but maybe not for Mars.  If Mars had hydrogen contaminated by CO2, Methane, and maybe Helium, that would be very valuable.  And Mars may indeed have had and may still have aquifers.

The beginning of this Video is without video, but does go to video later.

OK, let's consider the consirvative notion, that this resource would supply less than 5% of the worlds needs.

Still, that has value, and on other worlds the value could be immense.

The Moon is a hard case, because of the inertia of previous thought, and the solar wind would mask Hydrogen emissions, I believe.
Still:  https://www.bing.com/videos/riverview/r … &FORM=VIRE
A very short video makes some claim of it.

So, could the Moon be creating Hydrogen from deep water?  Seems possible.  Certainly, would be useful.

Mars:  What if the south pole liquid water indication was because of a Hydrogen seep?  On Mars Hydrogen produced leaking into a body of water under the ice cap could react with other chemicals like CO2 which may be in the ice cap, and perhaps this could produce some extra heat to account for liquid water at that location.  Perhaps a very briny water and still rather cold but liquid.

One thing about Mars is if it has impermeable permafrost, that might help to hold reservoirs of Hydrogen.  And that Hydrogen may have reacted with Carbon in the rocks to produce Hydrocarbons.

Hydrogen would be the most valuable though because if you could drill a well and get some you could react the Hydrogen with the atmosphere of Mars, and produce many useful things.

Other ice worlds: Ice worlds suspected of having liquid water under an ice shell, may have Hydrogen and Hydrocarbons as well.  Maybe Ceres, and Callisto, etc.

Re: Gold Hydrogen, Geologic Hydrogen, Natural Hydrogen, etc.

For Void re identical topics in different Index levels ...

Gold Hydrogen, Geologic Hydrogen, Natural Hydrogen, etc. by Void
Life support systems    3    Today 12:56:14 by Void

Natural hydrogen (known as white hydrogen or gold hydrogen) by Void
Science, Technology, and Astronomy    7    2023-10-31 17:49:15 by Calliban

Those two topic titles look nearly identical. Please keep in mind that you can edit a topic title, rather than create a new one that duplicates one that you no longer like as much.

If there is a good reason to create the same topic in another Index level, then that is fine, and it is done routinely.

If you are going to create a topic in an Index level, then the topic should stay within the frame of that index level.

I am looking forward to seeing how the Gold Hydrogen topic fits into the life support Index level.

(th) lets work to get you some satisfaction.
Today, I expanded the title of the topic here, which you previously accepted in post #2.
Here is the topic which has troubled you. https://newmars.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=10605

I do make mistakes.  I really don't care if we consolidate these.  I could make the argument that this second topic allows the expansion of the topic from just the Earth to other worlds.  I am not wanting to trouble you though, what will satisfy you?

Re: Gold Hydrogen, Geologic Hydrogen, Natural Hydrogen, etc.

My interest in the Hydrogen that may be generated underground extends to Mars, and maybe other worlds.

Any world that had or has liquid water in contact with things that can Oxidize, or may be subject to radiolysis, might provide that.

I think drilling for Hydrogen would be too much to do early on Mars, but if we learn how it works on Earth, it may show how to do similar on Mars.

Such a resource could accelerate the advancement of a Mars, entity.

I think that this is related, and important perhaps for Mars as well: https://newmars.com/forums/viewtopic.ph … 06#p219906

Helium discovery in northern Minnesota may be biggest ever in North America

MINNEAPOLIS — Scientists from around the world converged on Babbitt in St. Louis County to dig more than a half mile underground, and have confirmed a major helium discovery in northern Minnesota. Experts think this could be the biggest such discovery in North America.

The thing is these things may be related; Geothermal, Gold Hydrogen, Helium.  Drilling for one may turn up some of the others.  I believe they were drilling for Copper-Nickle, but also then found Helium.

A "Lucky Strike", I guess!

And it does start to look like the Canadian Shield may have some unexpected resources available.

It seems also that I live on a failed rift in the Earth's crust.  Maybe there are a lot of things like Helium and Hydrogen that could turn up if drilling for geothermal.

But it is not at all one of the best places for geothermal.  Maybe for thermal storage would be good.  Just Fack a well, to make thermal storage and you might stumble on Helium or Hydrogen.

Re: Gold Hydrogen, Geologic Hydrogen, Natural Hydrogen, etc.

This could be of interest if a low-cost Hydrogen source were to exist.

The article was a bit fuzzy to me but seems to indicate that Ammonia can be used as a source of Hydrogen, I presume on demand.

If true then manufacturing Ammonia using Natural Hydrogen might be a good way to make use of a liquid fuel.

Re: Gold Hydrogen, Geologic Hydrogen, Natural Hydrogen, etc.

Void, this is interesting and worth following.  That hydrogen could be used for a lot of things.  Ammonia production, petroluem cracking, metal ore reduction, cement manufacture, electricity generation  - the list is long.  Due to the low energy density of hydrogen, it makes sense to take these industries to the hydrogen, rather than ship the hydrogen to the industries.  We would be looking for a hydrogen deposit large enough to meet the needs of a steel works, say, for a century of operation.

That is one good concept Calliban.  Here is another article: https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/compani … be19&ei=21

Vast reserves of clean hydrogen fuel could be hiding beneath our feet

Another would be if https://www.quaise.energy/ 's methods work, then an attempt to drill a Hydrogen well could go deep.  If Hydrogen were found then tap that.  But then drill geothermal as well.  Them make Ammonia.

But if someone does not have geothermal then wind, or solar.

It looks like it could come together.

But think about Mars now.  These skills may work there.  I you had Natural Hydrogen and Geothermal, then a GDP for Mars could build up rather quickly, I think.  Not a cold bitter life but one of abundance.

Have a look at this video.  Water and Iron and Volcanism, could indicate Natural Hydrogen, ice, and maybe usable Geothermal: https://www.bing.com/videos/riverview/r … &FORM=VIRE

They think it may be that there were vast layers of ice, some which might still remain, and that those melted and vaporized away to make the Volcano erode/collapse.
