This topic is created in NewMars Meta Index level to support member communications about Real Universe activities that have a strong chance of completion.
This category is NOT intended for long range vision reporting. The NewMars forum structure provides plenty of topics for those.
The category is intended to (or at least intended to attempt to) assist members of groups to communicate with each other informally, as they embark upon personal projects.
The idea for this category comes to us from a member of a computer society that has been in existence for many decades. The original purpose of the group was to provide a way for citizens to share the excitement of the then new technology of microcomputers, which brought computing into the affordability range of averages persons.
The only members of the group who remain now are all retired from the day-to-day hustle, but many of them were performing systems activities at a high level, and many of that group are keeping their skills alive by doing projects for themselves or for non-profit organizations.
The organization has numerous subgroups, and each subgroup has a meeting at least once a month. The particular subgroup I'm working with was established decades ago when Linux became available as an alternative to the Commercial Unix operating systems.
A member of the group tossed out the idea recently, that perhaps the members might be able to communicate more frequently than once a month. This inquiry struck me as a golden opportunity for NewMars. NewMars is a division of the Mars Society. It has been part of the Mars Society since the earliest days, thanks to the leadership of James Burk. Mr. Burk is now the Executive Director of the Mars Society, and activities of NewMars are no longer in his view due to higher priority concerns that demand his time. NewMars has not been growing in recent times, so I have been attempting to try to find ways to increase active membership. We have admitted five members in the months since the avalanche of spammers was blocked off, but for whatever reason, they are not active in the forum. This "project" initiative is another attempt to provide a service to the larger community, in the context of Mars Society overall, and NewMars in particular.
In Post #2 of this topic, I'll offer a suggestion for how this new category might work.

We already have a working model for this proposed new category of topics.
The "Postings" topics are created to collect examples of and comments about the work of individual NewMars members.
The format of the titles of the topics is: Name of Member Postings
The titles of the topics I am considering for the new Projects category would be something like:
Member Name Project abcde
The reason for the "abcde" is to permit a member to have more than one project.
