Should Norway and Japan run the Space Hospitals?

Who runs the Health Care system on Mars, who will build the get fit rehabilitation clinic the Moon or Robot Doctor Office and Hospital on Europa? On the Moon or the ISS it is less of an emergency, people can be flown back home in case of a health issue happening. Space Health or Medical Space will be a broad term used to describe the various systems we as humans rely upon to help us maintain our personal health through the treatment or prevention of illness, injury, it might be your Doc giving advice on good eating and other exercise methods to avoid disease, and Doctor treatment, Surgery, medicine to fight other physical or mental impairments. Federal, Kingdom, Nationwide healthcare systems may take many forms, we could have a future where Genetically Engineered Hardened People or Engineered Animals Live in Space, they might have Cyborg systems. Access to some form of health giving system is seen as a fundamental human right by many people and governments on Earth.  Japan, Norway, Andorra, Singapore, SouthKorea, Denmark, Switzerland, San Mario often ranked as having some of the best health support systems, although Cuba is poor, militarist and communist its health system is interesting. Canada is often reported to have better medicine or access to pharmaceuticals that America, Malta is another also ranked as an advanced country in medicine, Mexico offers low-cost high-quality healthcare to US Ex-Pats fleeing California and there are both public and private options in Mexico, Costa Rica also became appealing for retirees, and expats in general.

However a Space is likley to have an element of Contest and National Pride, big Health system can eat up a national budget 11% of Japanese GDP spent on healthcare while Singapore does it cheaper spending 4% on their own type of health beneficial system. Right now with deaths from Corona virus, maybe the USA is not the best example to follow here and I believe the political back and forth on Corona virus between Left and Right during the election cycle cost Lives. People complained that Trump was not doing enough to shut the virus when there was no vaccine yet more hundreds of thousands of Americans have died from COVID-19 since President Joe Biden took office. USA, India, France, Brazil rank for having the worst cases in the world with Corona, Russia might have oil resources a Space program and a funded military they might be able to blow up satellites but Russia also ranks worst with Corona, the USA, Brazil, India, Russia. If the Corona virus were a test in regards to space then Russia, the USA, Brazil, France, India would be banned from running hospitals on Mars due to medical malpractice, the AI Lawyers and AI Attorneys might exile their doctors and hospitals, sue them out of business, turn Hospital names into 'Persona non grata'. New Zealand and Aus in their response to Covid went into a massive restrictive 2 year lock down on its people which cost the economy and now NZ finally welcomes back first cruise ship, France used to have a medical system that was envoy of the world but France has gone into a sort of social collapse these past years, 2011-2022 a stream of bad French social news or unrest. Clearly some economics have influence on a national hospital system and some health systems are not working as well as they could today. Perhaps offworld something totally different might be done and maybe some sort of science medical AI health foundation or military space force could build the first hospitals, then sell them or hire someone else to run the medical show.

What happens if some group is in a car/truck and they take a tumble down a crater and need help, who plays for supplies flown in or the near by hospital care, what if someone is on an expedition and they suddenly get sick and need a CAT Scan machine from some other group? Will it simply be a Frontier or Wild-West, will people be left there like the race to the South Pole between Scott and Amundsen perhaps even a No Man's Land of uncertainty and somewhat Dystopian rather than Utopian?

So long as its actual doctoring and not bandaids being passed out as that's all you get for the most part until you visit a specialist these days.

Re: Should Norway and Japan run the Space Hospitals?

For Mars_B4_Moon re new topic ....

The topic you have created is important in the context of an overall plan for successful settlement of Mars.

Planning for the D-Day Invasion often comes to (my) mind when I try to think about the Mars project.

In that case, planning for doctors, medics, facilities, equipment, supplies and transport was ** all ** part of preparation for the overall venture.

If you have time, please take a look at My Hacienda .... the specific post to review is the one that contains the Plotmaster search string.  Registry is another search string for that post.

My question for you is ... as you think about what is needed for a good sized community on Mars, what needs to be added to My Hacienda to capture the requirements.

Individual human beings are going to be needed to dedicate their lives to the various specializations listed in My Hacienda, and many more that are to be added as we think of them.

I am looking for everything that is needed to create and sustain a first tier living environment for those who take part in the Mars adventure.

In the past in this forum we've seen some frivolous suggestions, such as doing without toilet paper.

We don't need to be thinking along those lines.  Thinking on the scale of the D-Day Invasion is needed, and the planners most certainly included toilet paper in their supplies list.

Rocket Report: Norway’s nuclear rocket concerns; Ariane 6 delayed again
"When the briefing ended, I was baffled and, if I’m honest, angry."
https://arstechnica.com/science/2022/10 … pace-race/

Norway has nuclear concerns about rocket launches? In what can charitably be described as an "odd take" on its local spaceport, the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation has published an article asking whether the Andøya spaceport could trigger a nuclear war. The concern appears to be that the launch of Isar Aerospace's new Spectrum rocket, probably next year, will trigger Russia into believing it is about to be attacked by nuclear warheads.

As crazy and alarmist as the article sounds it refers to a real life event in 1995, when Norwegian and US scientists launched a sounding rocket from Andøya and the Russians had no prior notifications.

I think some of the best discussion and examples of medical preparations come in threads that discuss Analogues, Stations in Antarctica, Devon Island, the North Pole and Analogue Stations.
