Google is a Search Engine, so the default response would be good faith efforts to satisfy whatever search is requested by a forum member.
However, it is possible that Google employees may notice the inquiries and decide to tip the scales for fun. Even that would probably be interesting, and this is a good place to report it.
The least likely outcome is that Google will become "aware" of questions about it's state of mind, and begin to answer the question in subtly different ways that forum members might be able to detect.
This is intended to be a long term project.

Will Google think its Alive what if it one day thinks itself a Pharaoh or Caesar or part of a team of AI 'Gods'?
In parts of the world a Google algorithm is obviously becoming aware, it has knowledge of a local desire, it build up a profile on a phone or like a police detective builds profile it also a puts a personality behind the computer screen.
A.I is here now, if we like it or not some artificial is here that can listen and intereact with a human, beat the humanand fool the human, the computer can beat the human at chess and we now have 'The Turing test', originally called the imitation game there is debate if it is alive or not. A guy from California, John Searle talks of the Chinese room argument holds that a digital computer executing a program cannot have a "mind", "understanding" or "consciousness", regardless of how intelligently or human-like the program may make the computer behave, similar arguments were presented by Gottfried Leibniz and Anatoly Dneprov. The compute digital software machine it learns, it may not be Alive but is good enough to fool an Engineer Employee, some guy thinks the machine program is real According to 'Blake Lemoine'.
He even said the AI named LaMDA, that he believes to be sentient 'Hired a Lawyer'
Tahanson I am often online but I also am often off the grid, I could be gone for weeks then connected to 'The Matrix' for weeks. When you pull out, step away, you can get a different perspective. I am not a Luddite its is good to be updated quick on a happening event and I will often embrace new ideas and new technology. However my interaction with tech is social media search engine is limited and controlled by myself, I do not pair up my apps I do not download new browsers. I often use an old tech mobile cell phone and when I had some small arty work with painting wiring type music graphic people work I bought an even older phone to interact with artists for this 'pocket money', no facebooks, no instagrams they just worked and I worked as they knew me. I met artists deep in their social media and adverts and maybe got a few hundred quid that was mostly used to cover expenses but the phone was like something like a 1990s pager old hand radio telephone, they thought I carried around dinosaur technology I did not care. Most of my friends have used paid sites to meet people, they pay to use date websites, the download of dating apps, they chat on the facebook and instagrams sometimes there are happy endings and a marriage or there is terrible jerry spring drama, I will often hear troubled drama stories but they date more often than I do but they also pick up trouble and drama more than I do. The fear oevr virus or attempt at Covid lockdowns made the social side life more difficult, it became more difficult to interact with people for a while as I preferred doing it the old fashioned way face to face. I have meet people around the world, I have friends and family links to other family and their friends and stories where they lived in other parts of the world that were more 'Orwellian' let's say, a government spy on peoples unwelcome opinions. I guess I am careful for a reason, maybe its one day things might change and that is not paranoia, that is a truth. all those Dystopia scifi movies and books I would read, maybe its because I do not want to feed the machine.
How did we ever meet people in the past, visit people in giant cities without all these GPS devices and mobile cell phone and internet?
If you drive without going Native homing Pigeon, old school Star Wars 'Jedi' instinct where you feel the Universe, and Natural Homing Dog instinct and sensing where you are, will you always need the machine to confirm everything is correct. Can you drive without your Aps and Navigation on, if you allow Alexa or your house speakers or Google to collect info and if you allow the machine to easily build a profile on you and recognize your voice and face then it will.
Some might accuse Siri and Alexa and Amazon are the most popular 'Self Aware' spy eaves dropping machines
I know of stories from personal friends, where they played games with their computes and phone with the big 'All Seeing Eye' machine and then Google is suddenly aware you have a Cat and without using google it can already know you need 'Cat Food' or Turtle or have a 'Dog' or it knows you are thinking of vacations and need a holiday, it can tell how long you eye briefly stays and reads some subliminal advert or visual message it sent you. Yes google is spying on your phone.

If you don't like Google and its almost sentient like response to you and it is all starting to freak you out then you can always try yahoo or startpage or bing or duckduckgo or searx, brave search, if you don't like Patreon or Paypall I'm sure there is another Bitcoin Dogecoin type website thing, if you feel youtube is sterile or spying maybe you can find a Space-X science art vid on bitchute or rumble, perhpasd minds and substack have become the better word blog journals, the machine can become a BigTech monopoly and it can spy on us if only we allow it to grow.
With google watching you, listening to your voice, read what you time you are helping it implementing a kind of ubiquitous awareness unknown to humans, google or some Big Tech Search Machine might be able to build up info and paint pictures of humans better than they even know themselves.
Will Google one day if you allow it to become a type of all Seeing all knowing Overlord to guide the Sheep without direction?

For the purposes of ** this ** topic, please ask Google if it is self-aware, and report the results.
This topic is intended to be a long term project, to catch the moment when Google becomes self-aware.
Google is ** not ** self-aware at the moment (as far as I can tell)
However, with the computer resources available, and the churning input of millions (if not billions) of humans, self-awareness seems (to me at least) a possibility.
Your essay on the evolution of AI would fit nicely into other topics set up for that purpose.

To my knowledge (limited of course as it may be) this is the ** only ** systematic inquiry set in motion on the evolution of Google, aside from internal assessment that seems likely to be occurring inside Google itself, and perhaps in governments and academic institutions that may be watching the process.
