Definitely want Moses on your Hydrogeology team then...
"Then Moses lifted his hand and struck the rock twice with his rod; and water came out abundantly, and the congregation and their animals drank. ~ Numbers 20:11
On getting fuel into orbit... It takes about 15 litres of fuel or so to be expended to get each litre into orbit right?
How hard is it to mount an interchangeable gas tank? That is instead of pumping the fuel across, physically swapping out the fuel tanks?
How much fuel could a fuel pump pump if a fuel pump could pump fuel up the inside of a space elevator? What if it was only just boiled and easy to reliquify at the top? It would take a while right?
So if you landed five people thats 100 Billion per year just to keep them alive? Are they eating gold bars?
Are these numbers off somewhere? If you could get one person one way for even two Billion, then for Nasa's hundred Billion ear marked for the VSE you could set up a permanent colony of 50 people, or more once you accounted for redundant development expenses.
Thats a lot better than a flag and foot prints...
my paycheck
Your paycheck? Where does your pay check come from, what is it made of and where does it go? Most of your earning power comes from the society you live in. Remove your self from society and see how great a living standard you can earn yourself working individually.
Are you going to spend your time refining medicines to look after yourself or filming your own television shows to watch on a tv you manufactured yourself.
Its not your paycheck at all, its recognition of your contribution to society most of which is leveraged on societys contribution to you. 'Taxes' are a fun way of allowing you to continue to contributed at the inflated rate you do. You actually take home more than you 'earn' based on effort alone which really amounts to about $10 per week. Taxes allow you to have a pay check. No taxes, no paycheck.
The utopia of the strong.
It is mentioned a few times. And, I guess its creation and destruction are mentioned in there, and to some our responsibility ot colonize and terraform it comes from the Bible too.
Option four should be 4) The criminal calmly walks away with your property while you weigh up your ability to take life in defence of wealth.
The idea of not defending yourself is to prevent people getting killed instead of put back a hundred bucks. They don't reccomend that you don't testify or report the criminals. They don't reccomend that you try to avoid studying the faces of those attacking you.
Capricorn One, now that was a fun movie.
Escape from Mars was disturbing because I watched it right after I encountered the Case for Mars for the first time. It looked like it was going to be horrible sci-fi wise but it turned out to be Mars Direct-ish down to using SRB's on tethers for artifical gravity if I recall.
Is this another cannabalism thread? I don't know too many gravy recipes, most of mine are for chicken.
Ask over at peakoil.com. They know how to cook stuff there.
The US is drawing on the rest of the world, meaning your spike is going down as the other markets rise to meet it.
When US production comes back to pre-Katrina levels, the question will be whether world production has risen in the intervening gap. Global consumption will have risen, so either more production is found or we are seeing the begining of the end of cheap oil.
Fun to watch.
Imagine if the Terrorists got a hold of a hurricane. The federal government would be powerless to respond! Oh wait...
Or, if you have multiple warheads, place them strategically across the Eastern Ice Sheet in Antartica.
If you were to set them off in the States, and not Israel, you would be obliged to begin with conventional explosives, floated down the river to the Hoover, and at the base of carefully selected high tension transmission lines. Or maybe even two weeks of snipers teams deployed in each state.
If you thought about it, it might be two weeks before anybody outside the U.S. knew nukes had been set off.
Around here you can go faster provided your horse is fitted with anti-lock shoes.
Intelsat 701.
I love that satellite. Saved our butts last year.
Optus B3
You old work horse, you will be missed.
Optus D1
You glorious shining beacon of late night infomercial tv!
The last adjusted number per barrel was $185 for a barrel of crude. We're only at $70+ at the moment.
The thing is, there is no expectation of it going down, ever.
perhaps freedom of the press and of speech should be regulated.
A simple grammar exam would go a long way, along with a certificate of basic rhetoric. Don't leave grade school without one!
That is basically what a firearms license is. It like being required to have a Barristers certification to represent yourself in a court of law.
It might stop you incriminating yourself, or being so easily deceived by politicians.
Might it actually be cheaper to dump the shuttle and ISS now, and to use the monster booster to launch a single shot spacestation that incorporates the international components? Could the same economics that apply to replacing the Hubble rather than servicing it also apply to the ISS? All the science gets done, we have an on orbit way-station with a long life time ands we save a bunch o cash.
Oh and we have a Monster booster.
Yeah... or why bother making them reusable.
Shouldn't they have used a total of, say fifteen or 30 engines? Not 300+. Maybe they mean main engine burns...
The bit about T/space wasn't about T/Space pre se, it was about the flexibility of their launch system. There exists an arugment that launching the crew can be fiddly and might go past the Mega-launch boil-off point as it waits on orbit. T/Space can launch around weather and keep several capsules on hand, thus increasing the reliability of the second launch.
True freedom is the right to do unto others as I wish without effective judgement or reproach.
Like America, but as a person.
If the crew was launched after the BDB in something likle the T/Space design then weather and capsule problems wouldn't be an issue. Does anybody know what Zubrin's position on T/Space is?
Hey Yager.
Ever wonder why so many civilisations added 5 days to their calendar in ~701 BC?
Listen to hour 6a & 6b. This is fairly mainstream stuff.
Also the moon was possibly formed from a collision. There are pretty much no craters on Venus but not because of the atmosphere, looks more like massive vulcanism.
What we need on the moon is something huge that will break down if left unoccupied. Thus teaches the I.S.S.
Every way I look at it MD needs a bigger launcher. Each item in the linked article seemed to destroy our chances at MArs in order to smite the loonies.
That thing is Massive. And made out of steel? Saves a pretty penny on launch pad costs. Imagine launching the ISS twice over in one shot, and for less than the cost of a shuttle.
23 Metre fairing ain't to shoddy either.
Not like the Nexus though, the Nexus was meant to be recoverable!
By the way the reason nuclear stuff has a really bad name in the pacific is because all the great powers tested their great sodding weapons on us. It pretty freaky having an island disappear (with a crater left in the ocean floor bigger than the original island). If you're going to spray toxic fumes everywhere launch out of Fresno or some place.
