_ extra time to let it sit on someone desk.

Ahead of everyone else's who turned theirs in at the last minute

I guess to the lazy liberal eye, traditional values come off as stupid and uneducated.  I mean, the man sticks to his word all of the time.  He makes promises and keeps them (ie SDI, Axis of Evil, etc.)  I can't wait for his second term, because I can feel his promised economic and social security reforms coming...

#128 Re: Not So Free Chat » I herd there gonna start drafting - the draft » 2003-01-06 00:31:37

Hasen't affirmative action just made people "racist" against whites (and men) because there are racial and gender quotas to fill?  I know that if a college with racial quotas needs to fill a spot in a minority, and I apply at the same time as a minority, the college will pick the minority student even if I had better credentials because of some stupid number about how many minorities should belong in a school.

Racism (and/or sexism) of ANY type is wrong, regardless.

As in joining up with the Star Trek convention and using our voting influence to catch the politicians' eyes?

#130 Re: Not So Free Chat » North Korea - Well, someone had to start. . . » 2003-01-03 23:27:46

Don't you think it's more like a big, burley guy walking up to a short emotionally-unstable man and asking him to put his gun down because you already warned him once?

#131 Re: Not So Free Chat » Thought experiment - Moral dilema » 2003-01-03 23:25:42

I have the strangest feeling that I'm doing something wrong... like when you had to climb the rope in gym class...

#132 Re: Not So Free Chat » What do you think of this? » 2003-01-03 23:23:31

Why can't you guys understand this?  Even if (out of some odd twist of fate) everyone turned their applications in ahead of time, it would STILL give the INS __ amount of extra time to process it!

They put it off because they have to jump through the hoops anyway.

Why is that the federal government's fault?

caltech, do you leave a football game in the second quarter to be the first one out?

No, but I'd try to get there an hour early to find a good seat!  :0

#133 Re: Not So Free Chat » President Bush - about bush » 2003-01-03 23:14:58

Should we start a new thread about Iraq and keep this one clear for Bush administration talk, or is this war too integral to the discussion of his Presidency?

#134 Re: Not So Free Chat » Letter to Greenpeace » 2003-01-03 23:12:26

Well, it's sent.  Let's see if they write back.  At nuclearspace.com, mauk2 suggested i send it to bill o'reilly.  Hmmm, maybe I should

Definately send it to Bill O'Reilly.  He probably wouldn't read it on the air (it's a bit too long) but I'm sure it would draw attention to Greenpeace's video.

I sent a letter to the Not In Our Name people I've seen having their rallies on FSTV.  I wrote a long, nasty letter to the television station and the organization, and I haven't heard back yet  tongue !

Great letter.  I hope you get a response that replies to your statements and not a bunch of links.  Good Luck!

#135 Re: Not So Free Chat » I herd there gonna start drafting - the draft » 2003-01-03 23:04:41

I agree that the military is a place where young men and women can better themselves, but not that "rich white boys" don't need that opportunity.

Have you noticed a trend?  Rich white men ruled the world for the last 3000 years, but now its reversed.  Minorities and women aren't just getting the playing field leveled, it's getting raised in their favor!  Don't get me wrong.  I don't believe in discrimination based on anything other than skill.  But I know that Martin Luther King wanted the world to be colorblind, and it appears that the color was just shifted around.

#136 Re: Not So Free Chat » North Korea - Well, someone had to start. . . » 2003-01-03 22:58:21

Why does everyone think the Axis of Evil statement was a bad idea?  If he hadn't come out and said who the US has their beef with, it would have looked like we're going willy-nilly declaring war on everyone we don't like.  He named 3 specific countries that have been a thorn in America's side for the last 30 years, and made it apparent that if they don't co-operate, they will come under our wrath.  That way, if and when we go to war, we can say that this wasn't an impulsive battle.

Anyone want to take bets on that chance?

Sure.  I'll match Echus_Chasma's $10 on not pulling out.  I'll even throw in another $5 that says this administration doesn't sign a non-aggression treaty either.

They're in a broom closet at SONY's Playstation department.

#138 Re: Not So Free Chat » What do you think of this? » 2003-01-03 02:21:04

Even if it takes months, what's the difference?  Get it in a few months ahead of time and play it safe!

#139 Re: Not So Free Chat » Leaglize drugs - say what u want » 2003-01-03 02:18:40

Isn't a state of worldwide hostility considered a pretty extreme environment?  I think the Civil War was as close as it gets.  I mean, the US was attacked... ON ITS OWN SOIL!!!

And why would Americans not re-elect Bush?  He's led us through one of the darkest pages of our country's history.  Most analysts agree that Gore couldn't have handled 9/11 the way the public wanted it to (ie unilateral action).

#140 Re: Not So Free Chat » I herd there gonna start drafting - the draft » 2003-01-03 02:08:57

I know.  With the technology we have these days, a draft really isn't necessary.  Unless we fight a really big world power, I doubt we ever will have another draft.

#141 Re: Not So Free Chat » God, Creation, and the Universe Explained! - Life, the Universe, and Everything. » 2003-01-03 02:07:02

If there is a right answer, why would it be self-evident?  Can't people be over-skeptical, or too questioning, and pass the correct answer over?

#142 Re: Not So Free Chat » I herd there gonna start drafting - the draft » 2003-01-03 02:05:08

Instead of dodging the draft, just join the Navy.  They never come under direct fire in situtations like these.

Plus you have to have a medical exam before you get drafted in order to qualify.  If you have a bad knee, I'm sure they wouldn't draft you, or maybe they'd put you on KP...  big_smile

#143 Re: Not So Free Chat » President Bush - about bush » 2003-01-03 02:03:15

I don't think military parades and shooting a rifle off of the balcony of your palace comes off as being very peaceful.

#144 Re: Not So Free Chat » God, Creation, and the Universe Explained! - Life, the Universe, and Everything. » 2003-01-02 16:22:30

George, you forget that I'm a Republican.  I'm really just an 80 year old WW2 veteran stuck inside of a freshman's body.  I'm sure it is my parents talking, but I'm pretty comfortable with it still.

#145 Re: Not So Free Chat » What do you think of this? » 2003-01-02 16:20:35

Well clark, they don't literally camp out at the INS offices, but I don't know how hard it is to fill out a form and hand it in ahead of time.

#146 Re: Not So Free Chat » God, Creation, and the Universe Explained! - Life, the Universe, and Everything. » 2003-01-02 16:19:16

But suppose there IS a right answer to the question, and everyone else is trying to put triangle pegs into round holes?  They fit okay, but they're not an exact match.  Where does that leave you?  Or everyone else who didn't get the right answer?  I might be on the wrong side... but I guess that's faith for you.

#147 Re: Not So Free Chat » Thought experiment - Moral dilema » 2003-01-02 16:16:01

On their wedding day, the groom smiles because he's gotten the best one ever, and the bride smiles because she's just given the last ever...  big_smile

#148 Re: Not So Free Chat » What do you think of this? » 2003-01-02 16:13:25

That's why you camp out in line for a week ahead of everyone else so you get a good seat.  Do you show up to a really popular event right as its beginning?  No.

#149 Re: Not So Free Chat » President Bush - about bush » 2003-01-02 16:11:13

Who says that Scott Ritter is the 100% right authority in the issue?  And my common sense is that ANYBODY who had the chance to develop nuclear weapons would leap at it, especially if it gave them international leverage.

#150 Re: Not So Free Chat » God, Creation, and the Universe Explained! - Life, the Universe, and Everything. » 2003-01-02 16:09:29

Okay.  So you're saying that religion is all the same because its all faith, so really all decisions no matter how ludicrous are all just as credible.  Okay.

But in the end, won't one religion end up being the right one?  Aren't we all just trying to find the right one?
