#51 Re: Human missions » Nanotechnology and Spacecraft - Nanotechnology and Spacecraft » 2004-05-04 10:50:52

Ian

Could nanotechnology be used on the spaceship to make it's computer systems data processing more powerful? Could it also be used to make better computer chips on the trip to Mars?

#52 Re: Human missions » Bush and Mars and Re-election - Bush and Mars and Re-election » 2004-05-01 08:09:03

Ian

I wonder if Bush is just having this Moon to Mars vision just to make himself be popular in order to get re-elected? Is that true?

#54 Re: Science, Technology, and Astronomy » Mirrors and Lasersmeasuringseismicactivityonmars - Seismic activity and Mirrors and Lasers » 2004-03-22 14:14:41

Ian

What if we had more satellites firing lasers at mirrors all around Mars and had a gyroscope like device that would keep the laser from losing it's target.

#55 Re: Science, Technology, and Astronomy » Mirrors and Lasersmeasuringseismicactivityonmars - Seismic activity and Mirrors and Lasers » 2004-03-22 07:59:24

Ian

I have an idea about how to meauser seismic activity on Mars. What if they placed mirrors on Mars and had a laser beam strike the surface of those mirrors like the McDonald Observatory does with the Moon? Could the Mars Orbiter Laser Altimeter shine a laser at those mirrors in order to detect Mars' Marsquakes just like those mirrors did for the Moonquakes? Could that be done to have a more advanced seismometer or whatever it's called on Mars that also reflects the laser beam that would come from the Mars Orbiter Laser Altimeter?

#56 Re: Human missions » Material From Sun Visor Helmet for the windows - Material From Sun Visor Helmet » 2004-03-17 10:10:20

Ian

Does anyone think that the material from the astronaut's sun visors could be used to make the windows for the spacecraft that goes to Mars? So that when they look out the windows they won't get hurt by the sun's ultraviolet light.

#57 Re: Human missions » Space Plane - Space Plane » 2004-03-09 13:11:49

Ian

I think that the idea of a space plane is cool. It would go outside the atmosphere into space and back down for a landing somewhere else on earth. People have to make sure that this technology isn't misused.

#58 Re: Science, Technology, and Astronomy » Moon vs. Mars - Luna is stealing the interest of science » 2004-03-09 10:42:15

Ian

I don't know whether or not Bush is just doing this moon thing because of politics and votes. I would like to know everyone's opinions about this issue.

#59 Re: Human missions » Space Plane - Space Plane » 2004-03-06 14:51:28

Ian

I wonder when Nasa will get it's space plane done? I also want to know when they will stop studying the aerodynamics of the plane and get to experimental tests. Does anyone have any theories about when it'll be completed and used?

#60 Re: Science, Technology, and Astronomy » Water on Mars? - Water on Mars? » 2004-03-04 10:59:36

Ian

If there was water there, how did it get there and how did it alter the rocks so that they look the way that they look now? Why are the rocks shaped in the way that they are? Any theories?

#62 Re: Science, Technology, and Astronomy » Water on Mars? - Water on Mars? » 2004-03-03 12:55:34

Ian

Why did they name the combination of those chemical elements that they found there Jarosite? Also I think they said on their website that there were traces of sulfer on there from the graph on their rover website.

#63 Re: Science, Technology, and Astronomy » Water on Mars? - Water on Mars? » 2004-03-03 12:37:08

Ian

I'd like to see the data that they have on these rock formations that tell them that it was water that carved out those rock formations. Why am I wrong?

#64 Re: Science, Technology, and Astronomy » Water on Mars? - Water on Mars? » 2004-03-02 21:22:57

Ian

I don't know if there could have been water on Mars becuase the planet mostly has carbon dioxide on it and so I remain skeptical about it. Remember what happened with Percivel Lowell. (I may have spelled his first name incorrectly.)

#65 Re: Human missions » solar sail - solar sail » 2004-03-01 13:41:51

Ian

I also hope that it'll eventually take us beyond low earth orbit and to the planets and then to the stars.

#66 Re: Human missions » solar sail - solar sail » 2004-03-01 11:55:14

Ian

It probabaly won't fall back to the earth this time. They spent months trying to figure out what went wrong and they'll probably try to correct their mistakes. I hope that thing eventually enters into orbit around the earth.

#67 Re: Human missions » solar sail - solar sail » 2004-03-01 09:08:00

Ian

Does anyone think that the launching of the solar sail that Cosmos Studios is building will actually be sucessful because last time there was a problem and it fell back to earth. They said that sometime this year it'll be launched again. Here's the website for it [http://www.solarsail.org]http://www.solarsail.org

#68 Re: Intelligent Alien Life » Can aliens exist on planets orbiting pulsars? - Can aliens existonplanetsorbitingpulsars » 2004-02-26 14:46:21

Ian

Maybe not all planets are like that. Can terrestrial planets exist orbiting pulsars?

#69 Re: Intelligent Alien Life » Can aliens exist on planets orbiting pulsars? - Can aliens existonplanetsorbitingpulsars » 2004-02-26 14:12:58

Ian

I know that planets have been detected orbiting around pulsars and I wonder if aliens could exist there. I know that extremophiles have been detected on places that were once thought to be inhospitable to life. Could they exist on planets that orbit stars that emit bursts of radiation every two seconds?

Can space tourism eventually be cheaper than it is today?

#71 Re: Human missions » The air we need to breathe - Anybody a human physiology specialist? » 2004-02-18 12:45:16

Ian

"Collect water from a Mars well. Fill a glass jar with water and add  one or other form of photo-catalysis. Set in the sunlight, perhaps with mylar concentrators to focus the meager Marsian insolation. Siphon off the resulting O2 and H2."

What will happen to the Hydrogen that will come out of it? It will be left over from the seperation of Hydrogen and Oxygen. I think that on the way to Mars, it could be used as rocket fuel. People would have to mine less on the moon or mars when all you have to do is seperate the hydrogen from the oxygen.

#72 Re: Human missions » The air we need to breathe - Anybody a human physiology specialist? » 2004-02-17 14:42:18

Ian

Yes. But you have to make sure that the H2 doesn't explode when an electric charge is applied to it.

#73 Re: Human missions » The air we need to breathe - Anybody a human physiology specialist? » 2004-02-17 12:49:39

Ian

Why can't you just seperate the oxygen atoms from the hydrogen atoms in a H2O molecule? I think that this can be done using electricity. It's probably how submarines get their oxygen for extended periods of time underwater. What do you think of this idea?

#74 Re: Human missions » Bush and Space - Bush and Space » 2004-02-10 12:18:49

Ian

Does Bush just want to get votes from people when he says that we should go back to the moon or is this real?

#75 Re: Science, Technology, and Astronomy » Olympos Mons - Olympos Mons » 2004-02-05 08:02:24

Ian

I wonder if any future martian colonists would want to establish a tourism industry where people would go up in space suits to get to the summit of Olympos Mons.
