Josh, I am an administrator on a non-english aquarium-related forum. There, I require members to make at least 1 post in one month after they registered, otherwise I delete the account. We have a special introductory section, where every user is required to talk a little bit about him(her)self and his aquarium, experience with certain species, etc.
And about spammers: we've seen that most spammers come from a certain IP address. For example this week: 209.160.65.49, with the domains
wprihwpihwrhwpir.org
fldojhwprhwp.info
pfjhpw2ihpjhr.info
pjhgwprjhwprh.info
lofhpwirhgpwirhg.info
Everything that was ever posted from that IP was spam (and it wasn't a human, but a bot). I just banned that IP 4 days ago, and all email addresses from those domains, and we received no more spam and there isn't any registered user with "spamish" names for 4 days. I don't know how much time this will last, but usually it's a week or so.
You can prune the memberlist here if you want, deleting users with no posts ever and registered, let's say, at least 3-4 months ago.
Just my opinion.
How many of those are actually spam bots ?
This is very interesting information. I was sure no solar system can survive a supernova in its vecinity without serious damage. I guess I was wrong.
User Marzio appears to be using the wikipedia as means to promote his site. I think we should delete all his "marketing" links there, and maybe the same on the forum? Maybe even a temporary ban ?

Later edit: I deleted the pages but left one of them, so you mods can see it.
Just so you know: the links were hidden, and I don't think that guy actually was counting on some member to click on them (too small...). He was just trying to promote all those sites. Every time Google indexes this forum, sites which have links posted here get a little bit of rank boost for those specific words.
Just look at this guy here:

All dots e.g. "." in that post are actually links to various sites... :?
A code sample:
timeoff, people! funny joke here :)))

I was astonished to read this:
Antimatter and matter combine in chemical reaction
Mixing antimatter and matter usually has predictably violent consequences – the two annihilate one another in a fierce burst of energy.
But physicists in Geneva have found a new way to make the two combine, at least briefly, into a single substance. This exceptionally unstable stuff, made of protons and antiprotons, is called protonium.
clark, is this a personal attack or I'm just seeing things ?
I understand that sometimes debates especially in Free Chat can become very "hot", but still, there is a long way to personal offenses against other members.
I guess you should edit/delete those 3 posts yourself, or I'll take the liberty to do it if other mod doesn't do this before I login again.
Thanks for not... moving the one comment in it...
off-topic: Sorry. I've made a mistake.
This is what you said there:
I would be more thrilled if we had FTL transportation to allow us to journey to this very large world but even with a means to push us in the right direction with some sort of cryrogenics the power needed to keep the vehicle operation would be huge.

Note: I deleted the duplicate thread started by Palomar in the same subforum. ( ? )
I think there is an addon to phpBB that allows mods to do that. I don't remember more...
:? my 'we already have 'meta' was in reply to another post that seems to have vanished?
Nope:
Uhmmm, looking around, I saw there is no administrative subforum (only mods can view and post there). Josh, do you think this would be a good idea ?
BTW, I guess PM's are okay up to a point.
If you like, I'll start posting the IP addresses of the spammers, but if you ban blocks of IP addresses you'll get innocent people as well.
Indeed, especially when their ISP uses dinamic IPs. Just check for example the IPs I posted from, there are over 30....
For some reason when I click on those profiles it sends me back to the main NewMars index? Deleted already?
Put the "www." in front of "newmars.com/....".
Multiculturalism failing ? Well, of course.
Just one example: Women in Norway, Sweden and Australia were gang-raped by muslim groups. Most of the muslims insisted they were doing nothing wrong, that women were asking for it ... because of their clothes and so on ...

This happened 7 minutes ago. Stayed like this for at least 3-4 minutes.

Hey, wait a minute !!!! I'm a moderator too ?!?!?!?! Wow, thank you.
You shouldn't delete posts with spam. Instead, create a subforum which only moderators can see, and move spam posts there. This is how mods do it on another forum where I am a member. The advantage is that the post stays to be analysed etc.
The first 50 registered users appear to be spam bots mustering for an attack ...
No, all those bots have already been banned. They are still shown on the Users page, but are banned.
Now that makes sense...
Yet, there is a problem with ice transparency and maintenance. It's not that easy.
On Earth liquid water can exist without any layer of ice on top at all.
Of course, but not at -70 °C.
What sort of explosive do you let your child play with?
Maybe some C4, if I had any kids.
But that wasn't the point. On Mars you don't need to have any C4 laying around, a press of a button somewhere is enough.
