Re: The Mars Laser and the Future of Space Exploration

I have a blog that specializes in solar system imagery, but I also dabble in writing some articles. I just posted about the MSL’s ChemCam and the laser blaster. It seems like NASA has some real innovative stuff going on in the unmanned department… when will the human exploration part of NASA catch up?

Nice post, thanks.

My opinion: not until there is serious manned competition from an aspiring power.  So realistically > 2030.

Re: The Mars Laser and the Future of Space Exploration

i sometimes get depressed when i see a gap coming between the curent cassini and mars missions. not sure the mercury mission will hold my interest. so then i hope that the europeans pull off some magnificent mission to jupiter or the chinese send a probe to titan… who knows. but i do worry that we will not see another cassini class mission for 15 years.

Cassini & Mars Rovers are hard to beat, but you might want to check out this one ...

Ceres has a diameter > 900km and is thought to have a layer of ice 100km thick.  Could be interesting ...

Re: The Mars Laser and the Future of Space Exploration

oh yeah… i know all about that. i HOPE those are facinating worlds… no matter what it will be interesting, but I’m not holding out any hope that either will be as fascinating as Io, Europa or Titan. Ceres from the Hubble seems like it has some odd features, but the other I’m betting will just be a much larger version of Eros.
