I ran across this site searching for other Mars related stuff. The site didn't say much but I e-mailed them and they sent some insightful reading material. I even bought a couple wristbands from their site and they look so cool!

I personally was not impressed by them and they look like another paper company that exist on paper, but no where else. They have grandiose plans and they try to talk a good game, but I didn't see any real strategy by which they intended to get it done. They talk about planning for generation, but don't explain how it going to happen. They talk about jobs being created, which is what needs to happen, but they leave you in the dark as how that suppose to happen. They don't explain where the money or the financial resource are going to come from to pay for such a venture. They seem to be relying on some mystical or magical market forces or something along that line to pay for this whole things or something along that line.
Anyway, that my opinion of these guys.

I think that even "paper company" is being generous... at least 4Fronteirs wanted to make a space theme park to generate revenue to pay for publicity. Unfortunatly for these people, "we think long term" and "return on investment" are mutually exclusive, if you can't make money in any reasonable amount of time then nobody will lend you squat.
In order to make real money, the kind of money needed to start talking about Mars, you have to have an orbital launch vehicle that is qualitatively superior to what is presently available. Elon Musk is going this route, offering a "reduced complexity" launch vehicle for the government and satellite builders, perhaps eventually to NASA.
So you are going to have to top Elon if you are going to get in the game... and you need some serious money to do that.

I admire Elon and his placing money in hardware. The logistics of island launch is just eating him alive though.

Yeah, Elon does need to get on with the show, sooner than later.
