Only Cindy mentioned the red-white-blue colour scheme. It's too American; if you want something American then use Old Glory. NASA's colours are the same as the American flag because it's an American federal agency. If the goal of a space flag is to unify the space community, it must represent other countries.
*I completely agree. The first thing I thought of when seeing the image SpaceNut posted was: "Geez...U.S. flag meets Amish quilt." :? LOL! Sure, I love my country and respect its flag...and red-white-blue IS automatically associated with the U.S.
Yep, must have other colors -- to unify/multirepresent.

Ill have to admit I find that flag design quite horrible. I can see the song the patriotic anthem "to the red white and Blue squiggly bits and numerous balls"
Very patriotic not.
Nah the flag has to mean something look at the flag of the Mars society with the red, green and blue standing out for the world we wish to make.
This again is quite an inspiring flag and one that actually portrays a meaning which can be seen and felt
The winner of the Earthflag contest and it is better than the one we have seen though it could still be improved.

Hi! My name is Frank and I'm new in here but not to the space advocacy movement. I didn't know where to start so here is as good a place as any. Space advocacy is indeed fragmented. Many groups are all pulling in different directions and the simple truth is that not much will be accomplished by the bulk of those groups. The problems are many but one in particular is the fact that while many groups have valid ideas and plans, few have the means to make their ideas a reality so they end up trying to steal members from other groups and we all end up distrusting each other. We all want enthusiastic members, I'm a moderator at Red Colony and we have the same problems you guys have. But we all want basically the same things. A manned mission to Mars, colonization of Mars and space in general, a future out there. I am also a contributing member of the Mars Society in Australia and I do what I can there. Between Red Colony and The Mars Society all my time is taken up but thats OK because its my passion. After a long period of studying(and being involved in) the space advocacy community I can see similarities in all of our struggles. Some may disagree with me but from what I can see the average non-member in the public think NASA are it and regard most groups like ours as mere cheerleaders.
If we help each other there is a way to change all this. No one needs to leave any group they are in but we do need to help each other out more when we can. I will be honest, my hearts desire is to see us get to Mars more than anything. I'm not a scientist or an engineer, I just want to see us get there and start the next chapter in out history. With that in mind I formed MarsDrive at Red Colony, and I have also been working in the MSA to start up an effort that will help directly in getting us to Mars via the fund raising issue. I'm attacking it from many angles and I listen to all advice, but make no mistake, I want to see us on Mars, and not just from government missions. One day I want to see private groups get to Mars from their own resources but for that to happen many and complex changes must take place. It will be hard work in many areas from PR to fundraising, membership drives, etc I guess what I'm saying is I need help just like you do. As I'm already in the MSA I think that proves I'm not out to take anyone away, no. I'm here to promote the cause we all believe in- Humans On Mars. It is a complex problem and it will require our best and brightest to make it a reality. The MarsDrive effort is to form a task force worldwide that can start to work on the issues blocking our progress to Mars starting with PR issues(as you will see if you check us out) but expanding to include the raising of people and funds for our own future on Mars. Money is a major obstacle but I think more important than that is people. We need the right people working at this issue. Thats what I'm here for. Because I'm dedicated already to 3 different groups I can't promise I will be here very often and I know you won't like that but for that I make no apology. I'm not going to mince words and I don't intend to string people along just so I can get them to join me. All I am here to say is that if you want to make a difference and see us actually get to Mars, and you are prepared for a long hard road, then give me a look and give it a go. We have the scientists and engineers doing their best to prepare us with their fantastic research, now it's time we put the same effort into forming our own actual private mission to Mars starting from scratch. No it won't be easy, and yes, the obstacles are massive. We all know this. As I'm into action, not words, I will leave you to think about this and if you want to know more you can find me at Red Colony most of the time. Thanks for your time and I wish you all the best in your own efforts.

Welcome to the forum Frank,
I guess most of us have already heard about the Red Colony site of yours, which is yet another useful contribution to the space movement.
About the fragmentation I have to say that we are making progress anyway, just look at the emerging suborbital market, the nanotube people or the Mars analog stations of the MS.
This is the beauty of it, that it has already become far more than a single organization and is in the process of becoming a second way to reach orbit without the help of any government (other than just allowing it to happen).
People all around the globe are working towards the same commong goal, even though most of them don't even know about each other.
Advocacy is still a very important part of the whole, we need to get as many people involved into space related work as possible.
For lack of qualification, never let that stop you from trying out new things, you can learn anything you want if you just stay at it.
For me it was Tsiolkovsky whose biography proves this best, I mean if he could do the things he had done out of that situation most of us can do it also.
a Russian rocket scientist and pioneer of cosmonautics who spent most of his life in a log-house at the outskirts of the Russian town of Kaluga.
He was born in Izhevskoye (now in Spassky District, Ryazan Oblast), Russia in a middle-class Polish family. As a child he had caught the scarlet fever and became hard of hearing. He was not accepted at elementary schools because of his hearing problem, so was home schooled until 16.
Nearly deaf, he worked as a high school mathematics teacher until retiring in 1920.
So just keep up the good work, we are on track even though it is still a long way.
