I fixed it Rxke. I'm a hacker, I hack at these things, I don't know everything!
I was trying something, but it didn't work, so I tried something else, and that worked. Hehehe.

Make the font where it lists “New Message Board Software” smaller… that’s what the Guest meant. Don’t ask how I know, I just do.

Indeed: fixed!

That'll have to be done via CSS. And I am about to get breakfast. Would you like to code the HTML clark?
BTW, isn't the .cgi link an elegant solution? Does a redirect without page views or anything.

So...
The old board is now dead? Can we start trashing ermmmm contributing to this one for real now?
Offline
Hehehe, I have a feeling Cindy and Rxke would've been having a heart attack if they saw what I was doing at around 1AM last night. Lots of PHP errors. My gosh. To see their faces!

I can code it, but I assume you want it to work, so I suggest... not.
Yeah Willy, if they only knew.

The old board is still there and will remain there for prosperity, don't worry about it, it's a distant memory. Nothing to see here. Please move along. I will put up a link sometime in the future linking to it. "Here's the forum software we used for some 4 years."
But yeah, you could start contributing to this one the moment that other board was "opened," 'cause I had locked it down, heh.

Alright, time to start making a list of demands...I mean "suggestions". I'm working on my people skills. (how am I doing so far?)
Icons, similar to avatars, for forum areas. Spruce the place up a bit.
Choose one Bill White for mod.

Yes, that's an option, also, a mod for post "smilies," which I was quite fond of on the old forums. But in due time. First thing will be email notifications for PMs. That has got to be top priority right now. It's the only way I ever read PMs before. And not just a hack, a functional feature (that converts bbcode and everything).
And if you look in user groups Bill White already is a mod. I figured I'd add him since he might start wanting to post under his old name since PMs will undoubtedly work with it now.

*Josh: I'm very glad phpBB has "Topic review" capability when posting. It's great to be able to scroll down when posting (like we were able to do at the Ikonboard), to see what was previously posted in a thread in the event of a memory slip. Also, in the event one of the threads crashes in this forum, we should still be able to scroll back down and read what was there...at least the last half dozen posts or so.
It's a must-have feature IMO and I'm glad we've still got it.

Cindy, I am about to head out for the day, and I just wanted to ask you what you what kind of color scheme you'd like. I would like to install at least 3-4 themes so the users have a nice array of choices. I plan to make my own (I do know some CSS), but that won't happen for a little while.
We could use a womans touch. I think you mentioned some "psychedelic" theme before? Feel free to link to some perferred themes you'd like.
And I think I like phpBB's preview pane more, it can actually be adjusted to show as many pages as the admin wants (perhaps the profile even allows adjusting it). So it's better.

yay the logo's back!
I was h=going to post sumtin completely different here.
BTW the three stickies in this thread: isnt it time to de-stickify them? I mean, it's old news, no?
Offline
Another request: the quick goto button (the little page icon) and the name of the lastest poster in the thread is currently "centered" on the main page.
Why not do a right or left alignment instead of a centered alignment. As is, the little logo floats based on the size of the last posters name. I think they should be more uniform (the icon) in position.

*I have a question.
At Ikonboard, when inserting a hyperlink, you're given the ability (which I always used) to create a phrase or sentence "covering" the hyperlink (such as "Click" - "Read me"... you know).
I don't see that ability with phpBB. Just insert the URL and it appears in string form in the post. However, I see List and List= options. Is there a way to combine one of those with URL to enable insertion of a hyperlink AND comment again?
It simply looks *neater.*
Thanks.

The code is: http://website addy here] ENTER URL TEXT HERE
http://www.newmars.com/forums/index.php] Main Page of New Mars
The key is to place the website in brackets with the first url start code, then follow with the text you want to associate with. It is a little more manual this way, but it works.
If you need a reminder, place your cursor over the URL cheat button and it will show the code.

LostBelinda:
We're all new to this upgrade so bear with the transition. According to the FAQ you can select "I've lost my password" from the login screen, following its instructions should allow you to reset the password and get back in. The old one is encrypted and can't be retrieved.
I haven't tried this yet so I can't be sure of it, but if that doesn't work you could always re-register and bypass the whole issue. But you'd lose past post counts and other bits of non-vital info.
Hope that helps.

*Hi. Sorry about your password difficulties.
I initially had a bit of trouble logging in with my password (yesterday). And though I did check the "Log me on automatically each visit" box during the first log-in attempt, it didn't hold; I had to re-log and recheck that box at least twice before it took.
But is working okay now. Maybe just a minor glitch you're experiencing; hopefully.
-*-
Thanks, guys, for answering my recently-posted questions. It's appreciated.

Commodore, email me. Did your old password have weird characters in it? You can always reregister. You ought to be able to "reset your password" using the login feature, assuming that you still have the email that you signed up with on IkonBoard.

anyone having issues with their PM?
I have a record of a PM Josh sent around 6:15 PM but no actual PM...

Belinda, I would like to help.
email me at [deleted] from your email account with the subject *test*. No need to fill anything out.
Is the email addy listed in your profile still correct? That would be my only guess as to why you are encountering the error.
