*A nightmare and eyesore for astronomers and amateur astronomers.  Among other things.  Ugh. 

I hope our gov't maintains its current stance on this issue.

As if all the residential streetlights aren't bad enough -and- the billboards would block portions of the sky as well (starfields, etc.).

Besides, we've got enough bombardment all around from the Corporate Warlords as it is...

Had seen a few other articles over the last month but until today this thread has evaded me when doing a search.

One story was on using a blimp from jp aerospace if I recall but here is a twist on why we will not see them in the future.

Federal Aviation Administration--which oversees air-traffic control, establishes rules for de-icing aircraft wings and, at least in theory, makes sure that Saudi Arabians don't hijack planes and slam them into our landmark buildings--is also in charge of keeping advertising out of space.

The agency seized that power in a little-noticed bureaucratic maneuver last month--little noticed, that is, except by America's best-loved investigative reporter (who then told me about it).

But seriously, it'd be just that much more light pollution/interference; obstruction of deep-sky objects; etc.

There's enough to contend with as mere streetlights go.  Take your 'scope out and it seems a dozen more harshly-glowing metallic snakes pop up out of nowhere.  There is one particularly bright streetlight (old-fashioned glaring white) at the end of our short lane.  I'd like to fix a b.b. gun on it...
