Aerogel is too flimsy. If you are bringing up the telescope in pieces, you might as well use metal or polymer backing. Glass could even be used.
Getting a telescope of that size to the Lagrange points would be difficult.

I was thinking of building it in many sections on the space station using a reator to make the Aerogel. It would weigh less than 1000 lbs when finished.
