His conclusions or at least his working seem kind of silly but he did a fair bit of research. I think it could be worth a read. I will have to keep a skeptical eye though.

He appears to go over some of the idea's that I have brought up in these forums. Going into space promote the development of new technologies and creates new jobs. Those are two reason that I think we should go full steam into space on a large scale and don't look back.

Larry,
But Jobs aren’t the problem. We can always create things for people to do. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/de … ce]Rifkins, “End of Work” never happened. That is part of the reason I think it is silly.

If jobs aren't a problem then tell that to eight million Americans that don't have jobs or very good paying jobs and hundreds of millions of people worldwide that don't have jobs.
But, when you create jobs you don't want it to be make work jobs, but real jobs of goods and services that we really need. You pick something that we need to have like transportation system, power plants or deal with the drout in the west with new water projects or do a Kennedy type Moon Mission as a government national mission, but only bigger. FDR or JFK New Deal and/or New National Space Mission Enterprise Deal. Both the New Deal and the Moon Mission created millions of new jobs for Americans, beside accomplishing the goal lay out by those Presidents and we needed those projects produced too, which is even better.

yup jobs are a problem if you the worker wants to get paid at roughly 2 times the minimum wage ($5.45 hr), in order to live a happy life style. Most service oriented jobs pay nowadays 6 to 7 for the typical convenience store clerk. There just are not enough jobs requiring a college education out there....
