Re: Fancy a virtual walk on Mars? - These guys are working on it.

http://druantia.sourceforge.net/]Druantia

"Druantia is an attempt to create a full resolution, realtime and client-server based 3D virtual trip to Mars, Licensed under GNU GPL.
The project is still in early infancy, however the important materials like datasets have already been acquired and pre-processed."

" main project goal is to create a 1:1 scale (in terms of both size and resolution) working model of an entire planet."

Programmers with spare time, they can use your help!

Sounds brilliant, Rik!   smile
It's certainly the only way I'll ever get to 'walk' on Mars - in this life anyway.

Needless to say, I won't be offering my services to help with the programming; might as well ask a chimpanzee to do calculus!

Well you know what they say, put a monkey in a room with a typewriter, and eventually it will write Shakespeare.   big_smile

Mental image of Shaun in a monkey-cage, a BIIIIG computer in front of him, a BIIIIG pile of banana's on his side...
