*Apparently "Mesbah" means "lantern" in their language. Launch scheduled for April 2005. They're saying it is for civil purposes only but are giving little details.

Well, if I were running a terrorist-sponsoring state facing threats from the most powerful nation on Earth I'd want some satellite launch capability.
Not so much for launching communications satellites, but such a program is a good cover for ICBM development while still looking all respectable, "responsible member of the international community" and all that. :;):
And a nice, friendly "nuclear power" program too.

Yes, Mesbah can mean lantern. I have always heard it means "lamp"; more or less the same thing. It is actually an Arabic word, but is used in Persian as well. It is my wife's mother's maiden name, so I have heard it often.
