Re: 1000th member - Should we care?

I see we have 899 registered users.

Is there any point to recognition of the 1000th registered user (provided we verify he/she has never registered before) ?

A copy of Case for Mars, perhaps?

Re: 1000th member - Should we care?

Maybe someday we will get a member with different screen names for each screen personality. Maybe. ???

Re: 1000th member - Should we care?

Should I unsubscribe, then time it to become the 1000th member - to much time and effort perhaps, what percentage of the 899 current registered members post on a regular basis and how many lurk? I've been lurking for a few weeks (assignment due and not enough time to complete it - or perhaps due to the fact that this assignment is genetic engineering and I have little interest in it may have something to do with it!) Hopefully I can get back to actually having time to post a few things now and again.

Re: 1000th member - Should we care?

I'd rather celebrate something like the 50,000th post, which should happen in a few weeks time. Maybe we should run a little competition or something?

*Why not give SBird an incentive to return (give him a copy of _The Case for Mars_)?  He's a scientist and brainiac.  I really miss his interactions here!!

Re: 1000th member - Should we care?

SBird left? Why?

Isn't it just a case of studies taking too much time, as wit so many peeps around here? Or did he get involved in one of the less civilized discussions, and left in disgust?

Also miss his contributions...

*Hi Rik:

Based on his last post here (Science & Technology folder...he won a telescope in a contest!), he's currently apparently a bit busier in his personal life.  He said he'd be back...so hopefully!  I did drop him a private message just prior to his last post, asking him to please come back.

At the recent Moon-Mars Blitz I personaly recruited about 9 or 10 people to start visiting NewMars. Lets eee who actually shows up.

After I got to Washington DC I was disappointed I had not printed up some NewMars cards to pass out.

What about making palm cards (3.65x8.5 inches or 1/3 of an 8.5x11 sheet of card stock) to promote newmars.com and distribute at the August Mars Society convention and elsewhere?

Palmcards? Is that the credid-card sized thing we Belgians call Visitecards (from the original french cartes-de-visites)

Either way, you should make 'em that size (creditcard) people are more used to tucking that kind of stuff in their wallets, to find it back later.

Re: 1000th member - Should we care?

Hi Bill,

We met at the Moon-Mars Blitz. Just a note to let you know that I did make it over and registered. I will be exploring the topics for a few days (or a few weeks). Thanks for the referral.

Re: 1000th member - Should we care?

*Hi Morris; welcome to New Mars.

Easiest way to find the current hot topics is to click on "New Posts."  It's towards the top of the screen, left-hand side, last option in the row of:

Your Control Panel ::  Log Out ::  Notes ::  New Posts.

Hi Cindy.

Thanks for the info. There are so many interesting topics that I can see that it will be hard to choose two or three to concentrate on.

Getting close. Should we have a party, or something?

Can we tell (after the fact) who will be the lucky poster for number 50,000?
