Neptune it's rapid storms, its on the cold edge of the solar system. It has rapidly moving cloudy features. The Great Dark Spot (GDS) seen at the center is about l3,000 km by 6,600 km in size -- as large along its longer dimension as the Earth. The bright, wispy "cirrus-type" clouds seen hovering in the vicinity of the GDS are higher in altitude than the dark material of unknown origin which defines its boundaries. A thin veil often fills part of the GDS interior, as seen on the image. The bright cloud at the southern (lower) edge of the GDS measures about l,000 km in its north-south extent. The small, bright cloud below the GDS, dubbed the "scooter," rotates faster than the GDS, gaining about 30 degrees eastward (toward the right) in longitude every rotationIt is a myserious gas giant, the blue planet was predicted in 1846, after calculations by Adams and Le Verrier.

Mars as a manned exploration expedition goes.  However, Saturn is and always has been my favorite.  Its winds top even Jupiter's, with wind speeds clocked at 1,100 miles per hour in its equatorial region.  And IMO it's the crown jewel of the Solar System.

Neptune is in the "top 3" of my favorites...

  I knew most people would vote for Mars because it's such a great planet and this is afterall a 'Martian' website...

so i decided to go for the underdog and vote for one of my favourites .Neptune  :laugh:

This was a tough one, they all are so interesting.

I love Venus for its potential to become a second Earth. But it is visually a boring planet, from orbit.

Neptune is one of the most beautiful planet, visually. I love blue planets. Saturn, with its rings is a close second, for beauty.

Mars is beautiful, and it has the potential to be a new home for humans.

The other worlds of the Solar System are all interesting, and have their own beauty.

I voted for Venus, too. Why not, it has a lot of intrigue, since we don't know that much about it. Mars still inspires me, but I feel like I know it. Venus is as Mars was to me as a child, foreign, unique.

Mars of course, I hope to retire there after servicing as Captain of the TSV-89B7A-Enterprise which of course comes with the standard Alcuiberre Metric.

But outside this Solar System I'd like to take a stroll in my ultra heat resistant spacesuit on 51 Peg-A.

I guess the reason everybody will vote for Mars because we know alot about it than any planet or moon, better chances for life than any other planet. considering i found this website while looking for information for Mars, but i incourage people to vote for other planets than Mars there are many secrets to be found about some of the others. :hm: Even though we don't know alot like Mars.

Winds that cross the planet in 4 earth days at 300 mph.

Hey, what about all the planets out there, beyond the clutches of Sol's gravity? Okay, that's a bit of an exaggeration, gravity from a paper clip here on Earth affects planets in a galaxy across the sphere of the universe, but the point remains, there's bound to be plenty of great planets beyond here.

If I had to pick a favorite of the planets or moons we know now based on what we currently know about them it would have to be Europa. Can't wait to get a probe down into that ocean. In the possible future, my favorite would be terraformed Mars, it would be great to take a stroll on a Northern Ocean beach, but that will have to wait a few thousand years. Vulcan, the excentric gas giant around Epsilon Eridani has its charms as well, but we don't know enough abot it yet to see if it's a cool place or not.

Going into the completely hypothetical, it'd be hard to beat Delos, Chara, the planet from way back in the "What if the Event Never Happened" thread over nine months ago. (I once said at about the same time [at another forum] that there was no real tangible value of going to Mars, but we ought to do it for the exploration. I couldn't tell you how much a Mars mission would cost for the life of me. Was I ever that young?) Anyway, we're back, Delos was once a moon of a gas giant around Tau Ceti, but it's since been moved to Chara as a stand-alone planet about the size of Venus. It's temperate, 60% ocean, and you can walk around in your shirtsleeves to enjoy a nice walk on the beach. By the way, you'd better stay there, life hasn't evolved past the stromotolite stage here yet, so the inland areas are a desolate wasteland. Still, your biggest risks going outside are sprained ankles and charaburns, you have photosynthetic bacteria to thank for that. Hopefully, within the next two decades we'll find a planet like this with the terrestrial planet finder mission. Won't that be something, a future where you can visit an orbiting hotel for $100,000 and see a twin of Earth, what an age we'll live in...

Then again, you just can't beat Earth, sweet Earth. It seems the more we learn about the cosmos the more appealing our little (safe) blue marble becomes and yet some crazy folk (myself included) can't wait to leave. This planet just ain't big enough for the message-board-of-us. :laugh:
