Re: Any poets? - Comments, CONSTRUCTIVE critisism, ideas.

In answer to clark's challenge,

Our boots in the sand, a world in our hands
grabbing the future, to hell with demands of the Terran authorities,
implore that we listen to their plans and stories
when we're on the land, reaping hardship and glory
You'll never be Martian, so don't try to govern,
the way that we live, while you're greedily hoverin'
reaping rewards from the fruits of our labor
this world is ours, you're just unwelcome neighbors
so get off the sand, and take your shit with you
You're old-world and ossified, this planet don't fit you.

Thanks REB.  smile

The amount of time it takes really depends on what I'm trying to do, and my mood. Sometimes it flows, sometimes, no go.  big_smile

Well done Cobra, i knew you could do it!

Re: Any poets? - Comments, CONSTRUCTIVE critisism, ideas.

Another song by Rant Against the Regime. Thanks for introducing me to this great Martian rock band Cobra.  :;):

Transmission, fourth world to the third instead
New decade of the world that bled
No shelter if you're looking to stay
Refugees keep comin our way
As Earth closes like a casket
To Mars devoid
Silent vacuum waitin for power
A spectacle, Martian style
Footprints left in single file
Was it cast for the last to touch the soil?
Or for the frightened who cower from sweat and toil?
Yes a spectacle Martian style
They hold the reins, stole your stars
All for the wars the lies and pain
Who made the stakes
Who hit the brakes
More for the greed or some imaginary war
None of the above f-ck it can't ignore
Lights out Martian Radio
Turn that shit up
Contact, I highjacked the frequencies
Blockin STRATCOM
Move on DOD
Way past the days space denied to me
Sound off all you Martians to be
Who got fed up with that NASA guile
All you 'stronomers seethin with bile
Army of Mars no stoppin are style
Army of Mars marchin the last mile
Lights out Martian Radio
Turn that shit up
We have to start somewhere
We have to start sometime
What better place than Mars
What better time than now
All hell, can't stop us now
All hell, can't stop us now

(Riff of Guerilla Radio by Rage Against the Machine)

More from "Rant Against the Regime"

Autonomous rule is the fraud that they sell you
they tell you it's freedom, a lie we can see through
Their flag and their footprints adorning our walls,
while their Terry-born* overlords dictate the laws
and placate us with promises they never enact
the time for talk's over,
it's time to take the planet back!

Yeah, gotta take the planet back
Suit up now,

I see through your foreign faux Martian disguise
past the laws in your hands to the fear in your eyes
DOD transports packed with armed passengers
to make us talk faster than a fascist with a pack of glass catheters
to avert the disaster that's looming for you
and your rule and corruption, you f**ckers are through!

We're gonna take the planet back!
Suited up now, uh huh.

Independence now, or we'll settle for nothing later.
Independence now, or we'll settle for nothing later.
Independence now, or accept Terran occupation.
Independence now, or we'll blow up your f**ckin' freighters!
A free and sovereign Mars, freedom for it's people.
Free Mars!

*Common slang for Earth natives of the period.

Re: Any poets? - Comments, CONSTRUCTIVE critisism, ideas.

Here is an oldie but goodie;

ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA

"21st Century Man"

A penny in your pocket
Suitcase in your hand
They won't get you very far
Now you're a 21st century man.

Fly across the city
Rise above the land
You can do 'most anything
Now you're a 21st century man.

Though you ride on the wheels of tomorrow
You still wander the fields of your sorrow
What will it bring?

One day you're a hero
Next day you're a clown
There's nothing that is in between
Now you're a 21st century man.

You should be so happy
You should be so glad
So why are you so lonely
You 21st century man?

You stepped out of a dream
Believing everything was gone
Return with what you've learned
They'll kiss the ground you walk upon.

Things ain't how you thought they were
Nothing have you planned
So pick up your penny and your suitcase
You're not a 21st century man.

Though you ride on the wheels of tomorrow
You still wander the fields of your sorrow
Tomorrow, 21st century man
21st century man
21st century man...

Re: Any poets? - Comments, CONSTRUCTIVE critisism, ideas.

This is an abbreviated version of one of Rant Against the Regime's longer songs...  big_smile (I'm not sure how long I can keep this up!  )

No matter how hard you try, you can't stop us now
No matter how hard you try, you can't stop us now

We're the renegades in this Martian age.
This Martian age of renegades.
We're the renegades in this Martian age.
This Martian age of renegades.

Since the twentieth century and the days of old Apollo
Right down through the space age stages
Planet earth kept going through changes
And then the Cold War came, and times continued to change
Nothing stayed the same, but there were always renegades
Like Astronaut Neil Armstrong, Burt Rutan
Dr. Robert Zubrin, Wernher van Braun
They were renegades of their time and age
The mighty Renegades

We're the renegades of Mars
We're the renegades of Mars
We're the renegades of Mars
We're the renegades of Mars

From a different solar planet many many miles away
We are the force of a new creation
A new planetary salvation
And we're on this exploration mission to help the others listen
And follow from star to star singin' electronic chants like
Martian nation
Exploration
Always chasin'
Always chasin'
Always chasin'
Always chasin'
Always chasin'

Now Martians are people with their own philosophies
Renegades writing the next chapter of history
Everyday people like you and me
We're the Martian renegades, we're the people
With our own philosophies
We change the course of history
Everyday people like you and me
C'mon

We're the renegades of Mars
We're the renegades of Mars
We're the renegades of Mars
We're the renegades of Mars

Re: Any poets? - Comments, CONSTRUCTIVE critisism, ideas.

One more from ELO. This song was way ahead of its time.

"Ticket To The Moon"

Remember the good old 1980s?
When things were so uncomplicated?
I wish I could go back there again
And everything could be the same.

I've got a ticket to the moon
I'll be leaving here any day soon
Yeah, I've got a ticket to the moon
But I'd rather see the sunrise in your eyes.

Got a ticket to the moon
I'll be rising high above the earth so soon
And the tears I cry might turn into the rain
That gently falls upon your window
You'll never know.

CHORUS:
Ticket to the moon (ticket to the moon)
Ticket to the moon (ticket to the moon)
Ticket to the moon (ticket to the moon).

Fly, fly through a troubled sky
Up to a new world shining bright, oh, oh.

Flying high above
Soaring madly through the mysteries that come
Wondering sadly if the ways that led me here
Could turn around and I would see you there
Standing there (and I would see you there, waiting...)

Ticket to the moon
Flight leaves here today from Satellite Two
As the minutes go by, what should I do?
I paid the fare, what more can I say?
It's just one way (only one way)...

Re: Any poets? - Comments, CONSTRUCTIVE critisism, ideas.

ELO, they were, like, the first nerd band. They were ahead of their time so not too many in the mainstream connected with them.

I love their stuff.

I heard their stuff on the radio in the 1970's, but I really didn’t get into their music until the movie Xanado came out (Okay, so I had this crush on Olivia Newton John, back in the 1970’s) ELO several songs for that movie. I bought the LP record (these large black disk made of vinyl- sort of like CD’s). A friend of mine had their Time album on 8-track(I won’t even explain those things).

Get their album Time.

Here is the opening song and third song from that album;

"Prologue"

Just on the border of your waking mind
There lies... Another time
Where darkness & light are one
And as you tread the halls of sanity
You feel so glad to be
Unable to go beyond
I have a message
From another time...

"Yours Truly, 2095"

2095, 2095, 2095, 2095
I love you, sincerely
Yours truly, yours truly...

I sent a message to another time
But as the days unwind, this I just can't believe
I sent a note across another plane
Maybe it's all a game, but this I just can't conceive.

Can you hear me?

I drive the very latest hovercar
I don't know where you are
But I miss you so much till then
I met someone who looks a lot like you
She does the things you do
But she is an IBM.

2095, 2095, 2095, 2095
I love you, sincerely
Yours truly, yours truly...

She's only programmed to be very nice
But she's as cold as ice
Whenever I get too near
She tells me that she likes me very much
But when I try to touch
She makes it all too clear.

She is the latest in technology
Almost mythology
But she has a heart stone
She has an I.Q. of 1001
She has a jumpsuit on
And she's also a telephone.

2095, 2095, 2095, 2095
I love you, sincerely
Yours truly, yours truly...

Is that what you want? (Is it what you want?)
Is it what you really want? (Is it what you really want?)
Is that what you want? (Is it what you want?)
Is it what you really want?

I realize that it must seem so strange
That time has rearranged
But time has the final word
She knows I think of you, she reads my mind
She tries to be unkind
She knows nothing of our world

Although her memory banks overflow
No one would ever know
For all she says: "Is that what you want?"
Maybe one day I'll feel her cold embrace
And kiss her interface
'Til then, I'll leave her alone.

I love you, sincerely
Yours truly, yours truly...

"Is that what you want?"

Re: Any poets? - Comments, CONSTRUCTIVE critisism, ideas.

Xanadu. I have not seen it in over a decade, at least.

I loved the line where Olivia (who plays a Muse) Said, “I’m a Muse,” and the guy (Tommy?) said, “I am glad one of us is (amused),” or something like that. Okay, so you had to watch the scene.

The 1970’s. I remember them well. In 1976 we got the bicentennial quarters and we painted the fire hydrants red, white and blue. Star War came out the following year.

In the 1980's I was a closet Disco fan (Try liking Disco in Texas)

This is an abbreviated version of one of Rant Against the Regime's longer songs...   (I'm not sure how long I can keep this up!   )

Alright, last word!  big_smile

Hey yo, it's just another dead rock,
and the Terry's thinkin' they can own this
'til they meet a Martian stone fist, gotta sock 'em awake
and repel the invaders, not colonists or refugees, Green infiltrators!
remakin' the atmosphere to one of harrassin' fear,
equating their order with freedom, a thin veneer
they fool us with, lead us with, we've had it enough
We're takin' initiative, callin' the bluff
no escape from justice, got the spaceport sealed off
ships on the ground, elevator comes down, it's the rope that you hang us with,
'til the next round.
We're takin' action now, no room for complacence now
Mars beckons now, we're losing our patience now
They offer to slow it down, no room for complacence now
They cede a little ground, try to placate us now
They offer us a seat at the feet of the elites
to silence our screams and supportTerran dreams,
all of which are nefarious schemes,
all of which are nefarious schemes,
all of which are nefarious schemes,
all of which are nefarious schemes,

STill, the regime shows no signs of falling.

Re: Any poets? - Comments, CONSTRUCTIVE critisism, ideas.

LOL!

When it comes to music, I like all types. I still like Disco, but may favorite music is Jazz. I like (Glup! I can't believe I am saying classic) Classic Rock, Country, Some Classical, and even some blues. I also like the 1980's techno stuff, whatever it is called (I called it 80's Disco). I even like some Heavy Metal. I don't care much for Rap. Hip-hop it is called.

I am reminded of the episode of the Simpson’s where a young Homer is confronted by his dad while listing to rock music.

Homer tells his dad his is with it.

His dad says, “I was with it once, then it changed. Now what’s it is scary and confusing. It will happen to you.”

A few more words from Rant...  big_smile (what can i say, I love the punishment).

Favorite Simpsons quote (well, one of 'em): Mojo the Helper Monkey types into a computer, which speaks for him: "Pray for Mojo."

Rebel, rebel and yell
'Cause us Martians have got to tell
About this frozen planetary hell
Yes, the planet is a frozen hell
Truth is the story I tell
How long will we deny our fate?
Come on, it's not to late
Reforming for terraforming
Change your mind about the Martian state
Get in line and step up
Follow along or shut up
It's open sky or no life
Lord, I wish we could be truthful
Realize that terraforming has no equal

Now this Martian future is fundamental
No longer will we submit to that terran governmental
On the mic, 'cause someone should tell 'em
Of this Martian terraformin' rebellion

Yeah, what about that, Terry?

Re: Any poets? - Comments, CONSTRUCTIVE critisism, ideas.

Okay, I'm cheating by being a good martian and "recycling" (I wrote this elsewhere and have rationalized reposting it here again as a form of consolidation...yeah, that's the ticket:

Here is a song the band can play... to the tune of "Old Smokey"

On top of Mount Olympus,
All covered in dust,
I lost my last rover,
To a Martian sand gust.

My rover is missing,
with nary a beep,
It landed on Mars,
but it came in to steep.

It punched through the sky,
and fell fast to ground,
the rover did bounce,
Around and around.

It finally stopped still,
in craters unknown,
one hundred million miles now,
and a billion dollars is blown.

The politicians are angry,
All wondering why,
We spent so much money,
On this Martian flyby.

They've come looking for answers,
Come looking to blame,
Cause a lost Martian rover,
Is hard to explain,

To voters uncaring,
Or unable to see,
That space exploration,
Is as hard as can be,

So now I am singing,
This sad refrain,
My rover is missing,
And I am to blame.
