Re: Pictures of Mars - Strange geological features in Mars

Hi everyone, I was wandering on the net and Came across with this website, nice and very scientific oriented, I have been studying the pics posted at MSSS.com and I have come across with quite a few interesting pictures with geological characteristics that challenge my mind.

LIke this strange crater located in

R01-01318

The layers of deposited material are all wrong, it is kind like the crater is devouring them, what do you think?

This other one that I called "The Road" is also very intriguing.

The Road

The lines are located at the NE of the MC 24 Phaethontis. In my opinion these lines are older that many of the surroundings, you can see very clear the erosion on the lines, and also some areas where it has been washed away, maybe by wind or maybe by water, in other areas you can see the impact of craters, to me that means that they are pretty older.

Another interesting feature in Mars Geology is the famous "Dust Devil Tracks" or abbreviated DDT, the tracks are intriguing but capturing the phenomena that causes them is more intriguing. The following pics depict some of them

I almost seems like it is/was manmade ... uh thingmade or alienmade (I don't like that *alien* word).
We will truly know what's actually on those pics when humans set feet on the red planet, no ?

It will take allot of time to create such an texture etc.
Dust devils do exist, it's just similair to small tornadoes
from above they look quite weird.

I can't wait when humans will land on the planet, i think all the answers are out there on mars, we will learn allot more.
If we should land we should land in the cydonia region.

Your right Norden, if they were to land soon that is the place they should start first.

They're a funny shape, I suppose DG, but stones often have weird shapes. There's no rule which says stones can only have certain angles or dimensions.
If they're not stones, what do you suggest they might be?

Re: Pictures of Mars - Strange geological features in Mars

Picture R010318 apears to be like a sink hole or something. A hole at the bottom of the crater where the sand from the sides of the crater slide down towards the center at the bottom possibly into an empty cavity under the crater floor. Just a guess.

Ah! I see there is a couple of Cidonia fans in here smile

Re: Pictures of Mars - Strange geological features in Mars

Hi, Maryjane!

welcome to new Mars, you have some geological background? Always cool to have such people around in discussions about Mars, what with all the pictures coming down from the rovers and the newer orbiters,
there are some 'rock hounds' around here on the boards so maybe you can join the discussions.

About cydonia... All postings about that should go into the subsection "intelligent life on Mars," officially New Mars is not 'into' cydonia, but people can post about it... It's just not actively encouraged, because there are lots of other sites about this. if you do, be prepared to get some heated discussions if you do, heh.

Re: Pictures of Mars - Strange geological features in Mars

there,s a little error in the link. All one has to do is click it and then delete the stuff after ".jpg" in the addressbar.

Nice picture, I'm sure REB will be interested.

Re: Pictures of Mars - Strange geological features in Mars

Try that again with the link. It works now. It's pretty neat I ran across a couple other pics of what apears to be pooling in the bottom of craters on Mars

*Hi.  If you're interested in seeing other Mars pics folks here have posted, you might like to check out REBs]http://www.newmars.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1592]REB's thread.  Mostly MOC photos, but occasionally we put in non-MOC.  But it's Robert's thread -- his call, of course.
