Re: Cyclone and Huricane Season 2022

The City of Naples, Florida, having lost piers to hurricanes since the first pier was built in 1888, has embarked upon an ambitious project to try to build a state-of-the-art pier that might be able to hold up better to the next hurricane. A distinctive design feature is concrete poles that I presume have steel reinforcement are being driven into the sand with pile drivers. A video of the approved project plan is available here:

https://www.naplesgov.com/parksrec/page … renderings

Progress on the construction is visible here at the long-running Naples webcam:

The connection to the Mars project is slight.  However, it is possible that driven pilings might be needed for some terrain on Mars.  The pile drivers will (most likely) NOT be driven by diesel and air, but CO and O2 are perfectly feasible alternatives.

The lesser gravity will necessitate longer drivers and more massive hammers, because the resistance of the regolith to intrusion will not be less.
