Re: Possibility?

Hi all, i'm a very opened minded person when it comes to space exploration and communication. I was looking over some cool pics of the mars surface, and i thought to myself, would it be possible that mars may have been colonized by humanoids? And that one point they were advanced? Maybe they were confronted and attacked by another race?
Maybe theoretically we are always thiking mars is a planet that is war related. Look at this pic: http://pds.jpl.nasa.gov/planets/images/ … valmar.jpg

Left hand side .... lets say that maybe these were critical hits the planet took which killed it. Some ppl may think this is absurd or crazy .... but it was a thought. Who actually knows anyway right?

Re: Possibility?

Hmm, welcome aboard. smile

Just so you know, we have a specific forum for discussions like this, but don't worry, first post won't hurt anyone.

Those three impacts you see seem to in fact be the Tharsis volcanos, believe it or not! They're dark because they're covered with volcanic rock.

While I think the theory is interesting (and has actually been thrown out there a couple of times), I don't think there is really any evidence. I wish there were, though, because it would only make Mars all the more interesting.

Re: Possibility?

Hi, J2002E!

Mars has been the planet of mysteries since man started to look to the stars... Why is it Red? What are those canals? etc. etc. Your theory makes sense... if you don't take into consideration about what we *do* know about Mars... As Josh  points out, these are 'mere' vulcanoes. (Albeit much bigger than Earth vulcanoes...) We know that because today there are very sophisticated satellites orbiting the planet, taking pictures with very sharp details. There's no doubt about the fact these are vulcanoes.
Now there are a lot of people that want to dismiss hard facts to be able to 'dream up' stories about living Martians, secret cities etc.
The 'scientists' don't like that, and will, in most cases, consider it a waste of their time to go into discussion with these people,  or worse call them idiots etc.
So be warned: if you come up with these kind of ideas, that *a lot* of people will react quite unfriendly!

As you point out "who actually knows anyway," scientists will not easily jump to 'we know for sure' statements, they start, like you, with ideas: "Hey, those spots look like blast-impacts"
other scientists will say: "maybe... let's have a closer look... Hey... what's that? Hmmm... looks like a caldera... different caldera's... HEY! it's a vulcano, i think!"

Then *other* scientist have a closer look, like Earth-vulcano-specialists... And they don't find anything *against* this idea, so chances get increasinly bigger that they're right...

That's basically how scientific research works.

Now those people that favour the Secret Mars cities etc, dismiss certain bits of evidence, and only use what fits them. That's pseudo-science.

(By the way, in this silly post i pointed out to one reason why we *know* for 99,99% certain these are vulcanoes. (The caldera's show these vulcanoes erupted several times in their life-time)

I hope i don't come over as lecturing, or belittling, i just wanted to make sure you know we're open to discussion here... On a scientific basis, and you don't have to be a scientist to do that. I certainly am not. But *thinking* scientifically is not only for scientists!

Have an interesting visit on this board!

Re: Possibility?

Its true, some ppl are skeptical on various theories. I know that science prooves that they are vulcanoes. But yet my mind fades and dreams of things all the time, which in fact is a good thing smile

I hope that beagle 2 sends a relay signal back and we find out as time goes by of what was there at one point in time.

It *is* a good thing! without imagination, we wouldn't be where we are, as humans.

I always keep saying all the people working in the space-related sciences and engineering... are, in fact dreamers... But dreamers that actually work to see their dreams come true!
