It quickly became apparent that it will be exceedingly difficult to create a garage on Mars using nothing but locally procured materials.
The idea of cutting a Starship in half came up early on, as did the idea of simply importing a prefabricated garage/hanger/shelter.
This topic is available for NewMars members who might wish to examine existing garage/barn/hanger kits, to see if any are suitable for Mars.
The primary mission of a shelter to be described in this topic is to provide a well lit environment at Mars ambient pressure that is protected from the Mars atmosphere.
If human workers are present they must wear Mars suits.

For SpaceNut .... this topic is inspired by your initiative with in situ garage design.
In the course of your investigations there, you turned up an image of a Quonset hut manufactured on Earth for the local do-it-yourself market.
This topic is intended to provide a place for vendors of every possible type of shed/garage/hanger/barn/hut that is on the market to develop a version of their product for export to Mars. A requirement I have in mind is that the vendor needs to show that the system can be assembled by robots working without immediate human assistance. I am confident no such systems exist today, so we would (in effect) be encouraging Capitalist Competition to see who can produce a product ahead of everyone else.
This topic will NOT worry about radiation or ships or any of the other distractions that have plagued the in situ topic.
The mission of ** this ** topic is to provide a work space that is sheltered from the sandy winds of Mars, which provides adequate lighting, and possibly a modicum of heat although how that would be done is not clear, since the atmosphere inside the shelter would be Mars normal.
Perhaps the floor can be heated, but if there are no humans in the facility that may not be needed. On the other hand, the equipment itself might benefit from having a heated floor to keep tires warm.
This is in contrast to the in situ topic, which is set up to build only one shelter, and only then if the customer supplies the size of equipment to be sheltered.
Shipping is to be from Earth to a designated location on Mars, with assembly by automated system within a fixed number of Sols.
