Humans trying to deal with the rigors of return from orbit have employed fixed structures to handle the heating and turbulence to which a vehicle is subjected when it returns from space.
This topic is available for NewMars members to post links, images or text showing how Nature would have dealt with the problem, had it been invited to do so.
It seems to me that scales are the preferred way that Nature shows us as examples of how to deal with assaults by liquids and gases.
