Gold is a popular element among some NewMars members.
The article at the link below is about research into data from a now retired telescope that found evidence of gold (and other element creation). The skeptics are out in force, so I don't think the question is resolved.

Obviously, gold came from **some** process, but academics are in the business of arguing about the details.
