Re: NSS Houston Chapter Events

This post is for live notes ...

at 15:58 New Hampshire time, the presentation is by Christean Kapp, who led a team of judges for Science and Engineering Fair of Houston (SEFH).

Robert Hall resumed presentation.

Slide: NOVA Spotlight Winners

Opening: Asa Gangjee ... poster presentation to start

Apparently this team created a 3D printed rocket and tested it.. The presentation included a short video that appeared to show a test firing.

Next Ram ... high speed velocity ... time dilation...

Poster presentation...  Consider how time dilation will affect communications...

Example: 1 second on space ship is 4 seconds on Earth  (that ship is ** really ** moving)

***
The 7th grader created a model for an AI program to use to help someone design a rocket based upon 74 examples.  The presenter said that it would help to have more data for the model.

***
The fourth presentation is about growing on Mars...

Elizabeth Kennedy Ellison (8th Grade – Home School) – Growing Green on the Red Planet

Compare to synthetic ?

Nutrient deficient soils...

Test radishes and other plants...

Of the plants tested, Radishes did best.

Note unable to test with actuaL Mars soil...

***

At 16:47 a presenter discussed on space organizations...

The gent is a member of NSS, Mars Society and Planetary Society

The Mars Society chapter .... March 29th ...  visit an observatory

Mars Society ... 4th Mission to Mars ... for high school students (13-19 age)

Design a mission lasting up to 18 months

Offered QR code for links to organizations

What's on the agenda for the April meeting?

Re: NSS Houston Chapter Events

for RGClark re #178

Thank you for your timely question!

I just checked and the web site has not been updated since March, so I'll write an email and ask.  Usually an email has arrived by now, so that I tend not to think about it.  The gent who creates the email works for NASA as a member of the ISS support team, so it's possible work has taken priority.  There's a lot going on these days, with traffic to and from the station.

I did find this:

Winners that will Present Next Month:
*Lyana Yu (6th Grader at Spring Branch) – UV Rays, Isn’t it Fabric-ulous?
*Silas Lovett (Junior at Friendswood High School) – 3D Web App to Analyze Space Debris Removal Strategies

An educated guess would be that Dr. Stanley will give his usual Space News report, and the young lady who is studying the Sun will report on Space Weather.

Thanks again for asking!

Update: the email of inquiry is on it's way. I'll report when/if a reply arrives.

Update: I received a reply.... everyone is  super busy.  The meeting will indeed feature more students from the recent science fair.

We have additional presenters from the science and engineering fair this month plus maybe a brief discussion of Yuri's Night which is the same day of the meeting.

I'll post any additional news as soon as it arrives.
