This topic is inspired by work done by RobertDyck, kbd512 and GW Johnson (and others) on rotation as a way to provide artificial gravity.
The leading candidate designs for space vessels able to provide artificial gravity seem to involve rings, although the occasional cylinder shows up.
GW Johnson appears to have the field to himself with his rotating Baton concept.
All these designs could be created on Earth, and this topic is set up to encourage and report on such ventures.
The most likely scenario for a self-sustaining rotating habitat simulator is as part of an entertainment complex.
The facility is necessarily large, to accommodate the Large Ship of RobertDyck, and any of the ring designs that operate in a similar manner.
The Baton can be longer, but I think a decent/acceptable simulation of the Baton design could operate in the footprint of the ring designs.
The Baton design would cost less to build and to operate, but it would have less passenger capacity.
All these designs would provide an opportunity for humans to learn about the environment that is proposed for months or years-long voyages, including not only the Coriolis effect, but details of mass management in a rotating structure.
