Flight.... We Are Go

John Fongheiser, of Historic Space Systems Ohio, is what we strive for.
....the pure adventure of Space Faring through Full Mock Up Simulators.

Had phones him up last year and praised his wonderful work.
Asking him if he would entertain mock ups of Mars Landers & Rovers.
And loved the idea, though his current schedules keeps him busy.
He'd look into it in the future.

From the Shuttle back to Gemini & Mercury, these Sims are tricked out
in a modern, frugal way and are thorough enough. to perform Test Runs

Would be quite entertaining if The Mars Society could
make a set of Mars Direct Mock Sims.

Re: Flight.... We Are Go

This topic has been sitting idle since 2017....

I was looking for a  topic that would be suitable for the link to a film about the first person to succeed in hang gliding (as far as I can tell)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7leqLcgIMCM

The video is of near professional quality.  It covers the reconstruction of an original hang glider design by Otto LilIenthal.

The pilot trained himself using a huge wind tunnel, graduated to a car pulled trailer, advanced to using glider tow lines, and finally flew from a bluff the way Otto Lilienthal did.  I would imagine this vehicle is close to the least expensive anyone could build, although modern hang gliders seem to me to be less complex.

Google came up with these snippets:

Overview
Karl Wilhelm Otto Lilienthal was a German pioneer of aviation who became known as the "flying man". He was the first person to make well-documented, repeated, successful flights with gliders, therefore making the idea of heavier-than-air aircraft a reality. Wikipedia
Born: May 23, 1848, Anklam, Germany
Died: August 10, 1896 (age 48 years), Berlin, Germany
Children: Anna Marie Theresa Lilienthal, Fritz Hans Lilienthal, Friedrich Hermann Otto Lilienthal, Frieda Elise Helene Lilienthal
Parents: Wilhelmina Friendricke Elisabeth Caroline Pohle, Carl Friendrich Gustav Michael Lilienthal
Siblings: Gustav Lilienthal, Marie Lilienthal
Spouse: Agnes Fischer (m. 1878–1896)
Height: 6′ 2″

Re: Flight.... We Are Go

As a follow up to the post about the pioneer of hang gliding, here is a web site that shows a number of modern hang gliders...

Here's another link to the web site:

The link below shows a modern hang glider that looks remarkably similar to the Lilienthal design!

And here is a link to a video that shows a variety of modern flying equipment in operation:
