For SpaceNut re #25
I updated admin_groups.php this evening. Please try it again when you get a chance tomorrow (after replacing those brake pads)
I don't expect it to work but it might. Please collect any symptoms you can if if fails.

I think I know why the word search isn't working in Azure ... I couldn't upload the word table. Azure timed out on me every time I tried it. That is a huge table, and I knew it was not on the critical path at the time. What I ** think ** I just discovered is that the clone is starting to rebuild the table. The search works correctly on my development PC, where the word table is fully restored. This evening, I asked for "fluxbb" and the clone found it in a recent post, so I think we can set the word search issue aside. If I get a chance (and Azure holds up for me) I might try reloading the word table, but actually, that would probably not be the best use of my time. The purpose of the exercise is (a) to help you to practice Admin functions and (b) to give kbd512 the evidence he needs to install the updated forum at Mars Society. That is a ** big ** step and we need to be confident everything is working. I don't thing we are ** there ** yet.

For SpaceNut ... as a follow up to the report on the word search ...
I checked the Azure word table and it contains 102708 rows...
Then I checked the same table in the development PC, and there are 373692 rows.
The Azure upload cut of with just over a quarter of the words it should contain.
Because it found fluxBB today, I think it is rebuilding itself. I don't think it is worth any more time.

For SpaceNut re Server Statistics for Clone...
AISE objected to something in the original post...
Server statistics

I solved the AISE objection by copying the text to a text editor, deleting the text from Preview, and then adding each line back.
The problem line turned out to be the report of online users.
The comparable report from the Mars Society NewMars is must less revealing. I'm sure this is for security reasons.
SpaceNut, is your report a bit more detailed? Don't post it if it is... please send it to me by email. I'd like to see what the operating conditions are for the existing package.

I have been able to add a new forum user category as In "InActive" and did set it to require it to pass the newly registered to get back to a normal state. The user can be selected and placed into this group from the admin controls in the user list functions within the clone environment.

To identify I must remove the ban on the members that are to be moved and then I must change the group that the user is a part of. Most of these are members once we restore the ability and allow for a couple posts so as to stop spamming accounts that remain.
I have tested the ban and remove functions and will need to change the user admin messages as well.

Thank you for trying the setup for InActive members on the clone!
I'm looking forward to seeing it.

I logged in just now to report that OpenAI appears to have lost my connection to ChatGPT4. Only ChatGPT 3.5 is available.
I was billed for ChatGPT4 last month, right on time, so the billing system hasn't forgotten me.
I am ** really ** disappointed, because we are in the final stages of cleaning up the clone.
However, as it happens, I am not aware of any new bug reports.
Let's leave the MySQL report in place at the bottom of each page. it shows how much of our 1 Gb or RAM that MySQL is consuming. I haven't seen any over 600 Mb, but most appear to be over 500 Mb.

For SpaceNut re nice changes at the Clone...
The new InActive member option looks good! I just glanced at it and will test it later this weekend.
Thanks for giving me a promotion at the clone! The Admin options screen worked perfectly! It is amazing that those pesky little parentheses could cause such difficulty.
Now, if you find anything else in the Admin functions I'll be able to work on it right away.

This post is intended to show a Project Plan for Conversion from FluxBB 1.5.11 to FluxBB 1.5.12 at the Mars Society.
The plan was prepared by ChatGPT 3.5, filling in for ChatGPT4 which seems to have gone away.
I had a subscription to ChatGPT4, and we have been working on the FluxBB upgrade since November of 2023. However, two days ago it went away, and there are no available pathways to get it back. I am guessing a massive software change took place at OpenAI.com, and I got caught in the backwash.
In any case, ChatGPT 3.5 agreed to try to fill in, and this report shows it may be able to pick up the ball...
Work Plan for Upgrading FluxBB 1.5.11 to 1.5.12
1. Backup
Backup Files and Database: Before starting the upgrade process, ensure you have backups of your files and database to revert to in case of any issues.
2. Download and Extract FluxBB 1.5.12
Download: Get the latest version of FluxBB 1.5.12 from NewMars Azure clone site.
Extract Files: Extract the contents of the downloaded archive.
3. Update Configuration
Update config.php: Modify the configuration file to match your production environment, including setting the version to 1.5.12.
4. Set Permissions
Set File Permissions: Ensure correct permissions for files and directories in the FluxBB folder for the web server to access them.
<snip>
6. Database Update
Update Database Version: Change the version in the configuration table of your production database from 1.5.11 to 1.5.12.
7. Rename Folders
Rename Existing Folder: Rename the current forums folder in the production environment to "oldforum" for backup.
Rename New Folder: Rename the FluxBB updated folder to "forums".
8. Restart Apache
Restart Apache: Restart the Apache server to apply changes.
9. Testing and Validation
Test Forum: Thoroughly test the forum to ensure all functionalities are working as expected.
Announce the Upgrade: Inform forum users about the upgrade and any changes they might notice.
Remember to double-check each step and proceed with caution. If any issues arise, you can always refer back to your backups.

This post is about a small enhancement that I've long wanted, but which was out of reach before now...
http://40.75.112.55/forums/FluxBB/searc … how_recent
The show_recent search appears to be fixed at 24 hours. I'd like to be able to increase that time to some larger value.
This post is a reminder to look at the search.php file to see how show_recent determines the duration of the seach interval.
There may even be a field already defined to hold the search duration.

Inteliphense found an item to fix in admin_forums... The fix involved adding a set of parentheses.
I'll be updating the version on Azure shortly.

For SpaceNut re cleanup of FluxBB 1.5.11 PHP files ...
The work is going faster than at first expected... a number of files are not generating errors...
We have reviewed 18 of 103 files, or 17%
***
Just FYI ... kbd512 checked the environment at Mars Society, and did not find the current PHP .... that implies the updated PHP might have to be installed to support the updated FluxBB package.
*** update later ... progress was satisfactory this evening work session... most PHP files tested were clean.
One or two needed very minor correction, such as adding apostrophes or parentheses.
I am starting to learn the correct syntax for some of the situations Inteliphese finds, but others still require ChatGPT 3.5's insight.
ChatGPT4 remains unavailable ....

AISE refused my post ... however, I pasted it into the clone and it was accepted.
This is added incentive for us to finish clean up of the clone and install it.
The original post was about tests of creating forums on the Clone.
Apparently you would have to enter the description for the new forums for Large Ship and for SSTO Passenger Transport using h t m l.

For SpaceNut re edits of old FluxBB to 2024 standards....
ChatGPT4o assisted with update of the sqlite PHP file this evening. All of the many errors were corrected. Sqlite has been changed significantly in 10+ years, and PHP has changed with it. We are not using Sqlite, but I wanted the entire set of PHP files to be updated in case kbd512 decides to place the new version on a share site such as github. There might be other groups still running FluxBB 1.5.11 who would appreciate having the needed updates applied.
kbd512 may have time to work on the installation of the new version this weekend, if we are lucky.
kbd512 has a demanding job, and a growing family and many other demands on his time, so we'll have to wait to see.
The only remaining task for me is to replicate the new updates on the Azure system. I do development work on a local PC, and we are using the Azure site for group testing.
Actually (come to think of it) the files I've been working on recently are not ones we use. They are present for folks who use other databases. Never-the-less, if kbd512 collects the files from Azure, they need to be up to date.

For SpaceNut re decision to proceed with installation...
Per our discussion in this evening's Google Meeting, I have packaged the FluxBB 1.5.12 files for delivery to Dropbox tomorrow.
The files have all been passed through examination by Inteliphense, which is a component added to Visual Studio Code.
All errors or issues from 2012 have been adjusted, except for a very small number of cosmetic issues that were judged to be of no concern for operation of the software.
The operational files have been running in the Azure clone for several weeks, and ample time has been provided for everyone who might want to test the software to do so. I'd like to extend thanks to the NewMars members who helped with testing.
In coming days, kbd512 will collect information about the Mars Society server where NewMars Prime is currently running.
Kbd512 will also notify Mr. Burk of our plans to carry out the upgrade.
My understanding is that the existing system will be kept intact and ready to instantly return to service if necessary.
The upgrade will include installation of new PHP and MySQL systems.
From my perspective, this is a non-trivial undertaking, so kbd512 will need plenty of time to prepare.

As of 2024/06/02, the decision is made to attempt to install the updated forum software at Mars Society Servers
This topic was originally set up to provide a venue for reporting of bugs that might have existed during development.
The topic is now repurposed to report status of the installation by Admins, and to provide a venue for reports by members.
****
Status: The PHP and supporting files are collected in a ZIP file and are ready for delivery to kbd512
The Dropbox pathway was not open when tried Sunday 2024/06/02. The upload was reported "in queue".

For SpaceNut and forum Admins...
This is a report of communication from Mr. James Burk, Executive Director of the Mars Society
We are attempting to arrange a meeting with Mr. Burk, to discuss the proposed update of our forum software from 1.5.11 to 1.5.12.
Mr. Burk has tentatively approved a proposal to create a separate folder for the new version, along side the folder where NewMars Prime is running.
This strategy would be helpful for kbd512 to manage installation and testing of the software on the Mars Society server, without disturbing the existing forum.
It will be challenging for us to find a meeting time. I have offered Sunday evening June 23, at Midnight UTC.
This suggestion takes into account Mr. Burk's travel plans, and also offers some assurance that NewMars Admins can attend.
I am offering to host the meeting at our usual time and place, using the link at the top of the Google Collaboration topic.
SpaceNut... you will be able to attend via Mobile Phone in listen-only mode. You can correspond with us via the NewMars forum, using the Google Collaboration topic. That is normal practice. The topic is monitored during the meeting.
You will want to practice the connection ahead of time. Please use the link at the top of the Google Topic to practice a connection. The waiting room is set up 24*7*365, so you can test any time.
There are links for mobile phones in the Google Collaboration topic.

For Admins and NewMars members....
Following the Google Meeting of NewMars Admins (and GW Johnson) on Sunday, and thanks to the participation of Mars Society Executive Director James Burk, we are embarked upon a critical phase of the update of our software to the 2024 version.
kbd512 has received the "keys-to-the-kindom" from Mr. Burk, and guidance he will need to prepare for conversion to the updated version of the software. The Azure test system is still running and I am inviting all members of record in September of 2023 to test the system to help us insure we are installing bug free software.
The URL is http://40.75.112.55/forums/FluxBB/index.php
Please log in using your Member ID and password just as you would for NewMars prime.
Please let us know immediately if you encounter any failures.
Please note that the Azure environment is slow because that is all I can afford, but it seems to be reliable aside from that. The Admins have tested posts that caused AISE errors in the current software, and ** all ** the posts were accepted by the updated software. This is reason enough to replace the old system. However, the upgrade will include installation of the latest PHP support software, as well as the latest MySQL database software.
Addendum: The Azure test environment is subject to non-response mode if the system attempts to update the OS. I have asked the system NOT to try to update the environment, but in the past it has tried anyway. Please let me know if the system is non-responsive, although I will try to check it each day.

For all!
Mr. Burk has completed the special setup steps that are needed for kbd512 to proceed with the FluxBB software upgrade.
The Mars Society and its staff have been busy with the annual conference that took place in August.
The computer where I used to receive announcements from the Mars Society is still offline. I have all the parts and pieces needed to bring it back, but the only problem that I am aware of is the absence of the Mars Society emails.
