Ian, I hope humanity shreds the idea of nationalism if we go to Mars. However perhaps it won't unless something would unite all Martians against a common enemy before any settlement vs. settlement conflicts began

Martian nationalism is okay then, presumably?

Actually Cobra Commander until humanity can find a better enemy than itself (It's sad but true it's human nature to fight each other for what we want/need) yes we will have wars and yes Martian nationalism would be better than settlement nationalism because at least we would only have two nations (Earth vs. Mars) instead of all these different Earth nations fighting all these Martian nations in all sorts of combinations.
Maybe I'm being pessemistic, however once I look at human history I think I'm being realistic.

most likely there will be strong govt. the first murder will necessitate that. there will be attempts @ dictatorships too, & strong govt would discourage that.

The Zusayan Empire will infiltrate and secretly build a seperate Autonomous Martian Civilisation to live in peace with its neighbours along the Martian Equator. This is an exercise in freedom. This means there will be 'nations' upon Mars in the future, regardless of assumed Global Government. Hopefully this can be done peacefully (if pulled off).
So what is the Zusayan?
Here is a link for any interested as used in Role-play Games:

Considering view of the new US envoy to the UN, we will probably have either a World Government run from the Whitehouse or a Destroyed and Subverted UN.
I have ony one thing to Say. If you are a UN nation and the Americans step up and claim Dominion of the World, Say yes under the singular policy: Not without Democracy. That way the Majority of the World can elect a president who will never again be American.

The Americans (along with Britain and a few others) are doing more to save the U.N. than anyone else has had the guts to do over the last fifty years. We Americans pay the most into the U.N., we host the U.N. in our country, and we have usually been the ones to put some force behind the otherwise-meaningless slips of paper they agree upon. After seventeen resolutions against Saddam Hussein over a twelve-year period, who actually put some clout behind the warnings? The U.S.-led coalition.
And as for democratic principles, the budding mideast democracies (as well as the rest of the world) have Americans to thank, not Kofi Annan.
As noted above, the U.N. "subverts and destroys" itself. This is an organization in which Libya and Cuba hold chairs on the human rights panel. This is an organization whose peacekeepers rape the people they claim to protect. And need I mention Oil-for-Food?
Okay, feel free to tear me apart.

Would that Be the USA that told it's own people that It dropped nukes on a couple of Japanese Naval Bases. Nagasaki was a Naval Base like New York is a Naval Base.
ps. If you are interested in some modern propaganda from the ministry of Truth, the Page with the NASA centennial Prizes refers to the History of NASA as routed in the early European Science and Engineering Prizes. No mention that NASA was built from scratch by NAZI Scientists.
Frankly they need to embrace the truth and teach it in schools. So all the little kids know exactly what it took to get to the Moon.

Frankly. Dresden was worse than Hiroshima or Nagasaki. So were the Tokyo firebombings. Using the A-bomb was unfortunate, however, many more would have died after an amphibious assault.
The American military does commit atrocities - - just a great many fewer than other nations in history. Unfortunately, like the stock brokers say, past performance is no guarantee of future results.

How about the Japanese who told the citizens of Okinawa that the Americans would slaughter them and eat their children? Whole families commited suicide as a result. Yes, America has used propaganda. It's a part of war. When you fight a war, especially one of national survival as was the case for America in World War II, you fight to win. If that means bending the truth a little so the people will maintain their support of the war effort, so be it.
NASA's rocket program originated with captured German scientists. And yes, some were former Nazis. However, they were passive members--none had committed or were involved in Nazi war crimes. As high-level employees of the Nazi regime, they basically had no choice but to do, say, and be what Hitler's government said. If they hadn't, we wouldn't be having this conversation, because they would have been killed. As for their personal political beliefs, no one can say--they may have been virulent Nazis. But in all likelihood they, along with something like 90% of the German population, did not agree with the regime in power at that time; they went along with Hitler's madness because they were terrified of what would happen if they didn't.
Frankly they need to embrace the truth and teach it in schools. So all the little kids know exactly what it took to get to the Moon.
Hmm. Teaching the history of one of the greatest accomplishments of life on this planet through a political lens...sounds an awful lot like propaganda to me.

I do hope Mars has 'one world government', primarily because it makes defending the place much easier. You know the feeling of security England had from having all the enemy armies blocked by a few miles of the English Channel, or the feeling of security the US had for so long from oceans on either coast? They have got *nothing* on a Martian government with several months of travel time and Earth's gravity well complicating military logistics for Earth.

How far can a government rule or simply inspire or encourage with its scientific research projects?
It is kinda odd and sad what has happened to astronomy in Hawaii. This is a strange situation I followed for many years, Hawaii is the 50th state of the United States of America and perhaps politics is also 'involved' and if it is involved the despair and anger from the recent fires may not have helped. Hawaii is Western or US influence on Hawaii has been there a long time, then after WW2 came the Alaska Statehood Act, admitting Alaska as a state in the Union 1959;the Hawaii Admission Act, admitting Hawaii as a state in the Union as of 1959. I have never been to Hawaii but I feel maybe the Thirty Meter Telescope protests part of the series of protests and demonstrations is a way to vent at the 'big guy' or the government, I under stand they have an old culture and tradition but I think it is more than all of this, they had no true big leader nor President or traditional Hawaii King to scream at so instead they vent at the direction telescope site. Hawaii was know as the most stable or one of the best for astronomy in the world, global groups, Shanghai and Chile are supporting the move, and the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, and Universidad de Concepción a traditional Chilean private university, Gordon was the co-founder and chairman of Intel Corporation.
some claim opposition to the project and other observatories has existed since 1964, there are these pagan gods, a sky god a mountain god and a volcano god https://www.forbes.com/sites/alexknapp/ … ntroversy/

EDIT
I noticed something strange is happening with this link, it happened before with an old NASA link for example they would retract a webpage about flying on Mars for example but now even Hawaii archive internet links are delivering dead links
google cache also dead

I believe there might also be some archive pages from Japan a dot .jp domain I could really dig through if people want me to check for the original article
