The simulation of greenhouse and construction must occur in the cold and mars is by and far that much colder that these places. Granted the atmosphere requires us to gain knowledge of air mixing to make life safe for man. One could also stay longer in the artci on the societies part of the island as well but the experimentation that must happen is prohibited.
