For SpaceNut re inquiry about engines ...
In the post at this location:http://newmars.com/forums/viewtopic.php?pid=215881#p215881
you inquired about engines (rocket engines, that is) ....
I did a quick search on topics with engine in the title, and there are more than one page of them.
The topic on shipping carbon and water to Mars may not be the best place to look, but there sure do appear to be plenty of alternatives.

I book marked a topic where fuels are to be used and in that topic the Raptor is part of the starship for reuse if we recycle the starship engines which burn the methane and Lox but for the others there is a problem that I wanted to flag as we keep playing number games for new innovative designs.

Okay, ZIP file named "fluxbb_backup.zip" has been uploaded to the folder you just shared with me. Let me know if you have it. This file includes a complete backup of the forum posts, done the right way.

For SpaceNut, kbd512 and all who may be interested....
kbd512 has uploaded a file called "fluxbb_backup.zip" to an account in a folder set up for the purpose. The location of the file is confidential.
At the moment, only kbd512 and tahanson43206 have access to the file.
We have extended an invitation to RobertDyck to participate in a team effort to attempt to build a copy of the NewMars system on our home computers.
If we are successful we can explore options for upgrading the forum packages to more modern versions.
SpaceNut ... what is your level of interest in this project?
This may not be an ideal time for you to take on the investment of time and possibly money that would be needed.
however, if this ** is ** a good time for you, then you are automatically eligible to take part, as Senior Admin.
As things stand, I am planning to copy the data set down to a dedicated test system, where I hope to build a duplicate environment.
I expect that kbd512 is well along in his construction of a duplicate system.

For SpaceNut .... I have downloaded the backup file created by kbd512 as a backup of our existing FluxBB forum.
In addition to the data, I have this file: fluxbb_newmars_create_script.sql
kbd512 says this file contains all the instructions the database needs to set up an exact copy of the existing database.
I'm looking forward to studying the file tomorrow.
I took a quick look at the database create command file... at the bottom is this:
ENGINE=MyISAM AUTO_INCREMENT=420796 DEFAULT CHARSET=utf8mb3;
SpaceNut, if you would be interested in keeping in touch with this process, you can do a look up on MyISAM and it's successor.
There appear to be some advantages of MyISAM, but there appear to be plenty of reasons why it's successor was built and MyISAM not used in new installations after 2009.

It does look similar to other software I have seen.
ENGINE=MyISAM AUTO_INCREMENT=420796 appears to be the record counter section of the output function while DEFAULT CHARSET=utf8mb3; is the browser output display format of characters style.

If you want to be a part of this process, now is a ** very ** good time to jump in ...
I have ** just ** completed installation on MySQL on the dedicated test system here. The process is very similar for Windows (which you have) and I have a book that explains it step by step, although the online resources are fine as well.

For SpaceNut re restoring backup data for forum database ...
If you are following along with this process, you may encounter this error:

For SpaceNut ...
to my surprise, the data load worked today.
I had powered off the system, and started from scratch, so everything "just worked" .... I did implement one suggestion from a contributor to StackExchange ... I started MySQL using a variation of the start command that includes the local_infile parameter set to true. I still had to tell MySQL to set that variable to true, so I have no idea if the extra step made ** the ** difference, but here is the result...
mysql> use fluxbb_newmars;
Reading table information for completion of table and column names
You can turn off this feature to get a quicker startup with -ADatabase changed
mysql> LOAD DATA LOCAL INFILE '/home/tahanson/fluxbb_bans_202311121523.csv' INTO TABLE fluxbb_bans;
Query OK, 775 rows affected, 5425 warnings (0.01 sec)
Records: 775 Deleted: 0 Skipped: 0 Warnings: 5425
Now there would appear to just be 16 more repetitions of the LOAD DATA statement to perform.

For SpaceNut .... loading the tables went smoothly, until I came to posts, which is a multi-megabyte csv file.
ERROR 1467 (HY000): Failed to read auto-increment value from storage engine

Someone on StackExchange suggested looking at the table definition ...

1 row in set (0.00 sec)
The AUTO_INCREMENT value should be 1 ...
Here is the relevant section of the script that created the table:
-- fluxbb_newmars.fluxbb_posts definition
CREATE TABLE `fluxbb_posts` (
`id` int unsigned NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT,
`poster` varchar(200) NOT NULL DEFAULT '',
`poster_id` int unsigned NOT NULL DEFAULT '1',

KEY `fluxbb_posts_multi_idx` (`poster_id`,`topic_id`)
) ENGINE=MyISAM AUTO_INCREMENT=215842 DEFAULT CHARSET=utf8mb3;
At the time the table was created the AUTO_INCREMENT value was set to 215842 ... I have NO idea where that would be coming from.
All tables in this database should have had auto_increment values set to 1.
Later .... I tried setting the auto_increment value to 1 ... (per a suggestion from StackExchange)
mysql> ALTER TABLE fluxbb_posts AUTO_INCREMENT =1;
Query OK, 141886 rows affected (1.98 sec)
Records: 141886 Duplicates: 0 Warnings: 0
The result above means that the DATA LOAD failed about halfway through.
I looked as the smaller tables that did appear to succeed, and they look reasonable, except that there are a lot of nulls because we do not appear to be using the features for which the tables are provided.

Thanks for your interest in the backup files and the restore script!
The files are stored in our Dropbox account, and only made available to Admins who specifically ask for them, per kbd512's instructions.
Now that you have explicitly requested access to the files, I've added a work item to my plan for tomorrow.
I'll notify you when the permission is granted.
FYI ... I mentioned my experiments with the files to kbd512 at the Sunday meeting. Your experience in the Windows environment will be helpful, so I hope you will have time to post updates similar to the ones I have posted.

For SpaceNut re topic drift ....
I don't think there is an answer to this phenomenon. It is perfectly natural and normal for our members to pick up on a post (regardless of topic) and to write a reply that is about some aspect of the post, without consideration for the topic.
There are ** some ** topics that are more in need of staying-on-track than others. I'm not sure what (if anything) can be done, or is even appropriate.
We ** certainly ** appreciate contributions by our members, whether the post is on topic or not.
On the ** other ** hand, we are trying to help readers of the topic to be able to expect the topic to stay on track.

For SpaceNut re restoring data to new tables for FluxBB backup to home system:
ChatGPT suggested this format for the LOAD DATA command:
LOAD DATA LOCAL INFILE '/home/tahanson/fluxbb_posts_202311121532.csv' IGNORE INTO TABLE fluxbb_posts
FIELDS TERMINATED BY ',' ENCLOSED BY '"'
LINES TERMINATED BY '\n';
The "posts" table contains thousands of gaps, as we know from our work with the database over the past year. ChatGPT seems to think the IGNORE parameter will allow us to insert the records without creating the AUTO_INCREMENT problem.

The correct format for the Groups table load was:
LOAD DATA LOCAL INFILE '/home/tahanson/fluxbb_groups_202311121531.csv'
INTO TABLE fluxbb_groups
FIELDS TERMINATED BY ',' ENCLOSED BY '"' LINES TERMINATED BY '\n'
IGNORE 1 LINES;
The key here is the IGNORE 1 LINES parameter. The csv files contain a row of field names that should NOT be entered into the database.
SpaceNut ... if you get to the point of loading the Groups as shown above, please remember you need to give yourself permission to use the LOAD DATA statement. You need to set that ON in TWO places.
First, you need to activate that feature when you start the server: sudo mysql --local-infile=1 -u root -p
Second, you need to turn ON the switch inside MySQL: SET GLOBAL local_infile = true;
The command to create the tables is: source "name of script".sql
You need to USE fluxbb_newmars; to create the tables, after you've created the empty database.
I can't seem to find a way to capture the history of the commands, so the list is less than ideal.
