A rare hyper-magnetic star is now believed to be a precursor to magnetars.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=E9vQiDP_3zU

These stars possess the strongest magnetic fields in the universe, trillions of times stronger than the sun.  So strong in fact, that tye space around them is constantly emitting virtual particles that are pulled outvof the vacuum.

A Kilonova Simulated in 3D
https://www.universetoday.com/163846/a- … ted-in-3d/
In 2017, astronomers detected gravitational waves from colliding neutron stars for the first time: a kilonova. Enormous amounts of heavy metals were detected in the light from the explosion, and astronomers continued to watch the expanding debris cloud.
Researchers have continued to study this event. Now, using a three-dimensional computer simulation, they have created a new recreation of this merger — second by second, as it happened — giving insights into all the high-energy mayhem and heavy elements formation in this catastrophic event.

Webb recently detected tellurium, an element rarer than platinum on Earth, in the explosive aftermath of two neutron stars merging

https://twitter.com/NASAWebb/status/1717198085955215468

Webb also helped scientists detect the chemical element tellurium in the explosion’s aftermath.
Other elements near tellurium on the periodic table – like iodine, which is needed for much of life on Earth – are also likely to be present among the kilonova’s ejected material.

Re: Singularity - Black Holes, Gamma Rays, Magnetars, etc

In Cosmology Theory a white hole is a hypothetical region of spacetime and singularity that cannot be entered from the outside, although energy-matter, light and information can escape from it, in this sense, it is the reverse of a black hole, it is predicted by general relativity.

The White Hole has not been confirmed by observation and is more in the realm of scifi, it is also believed that time travel or teleportation may be completed or become more of a reality, it has been postulated that white holes could be the temporal inverse of a black hole.. The White hole object is not a wormhole, this is a another type of hypothetical structure connecting disparate points in spacetime. Israeli astronomers Alon Retter and Shlomo Heller suggest that the GRB 060614 anomalous gamma-ray burst that occurred in 2006 was a "white hole". GRB 060614 was a gamma-ray burst detected by the Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory in June 2006, with peculiar properties. It challenged a previously held scientific consensus on gamma-ray burst progenitors and black holes. Stephen Hawking and others have proposed that these supermassive black holes spawn a supermassive white hole.

The Theory of General Relativity Says White Holes Should Exist. So Where Are They?
https://www.popularmechanics.com/space/ … hite-hole/
Could white holes be doorways to distant regions of the universe or to other universes entirely, or just endless fountains spraying matter and energy?

In quantum mechanics, the black hole emits Hawking radiation and so it can come to thermal equilibrium with a gas of radiation (not compulsory).

The latest podcast from Anton Petrov.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=oRyHKBsi-q4

Latest data from James Webb suggests that the supermassive blackholes at the heart of most galaxies, formed by direct gas cloud collapse at a time when the universe was younger and much denser.  Unlike stellar mass blackholes, they did not form from supernova.  The turbulence introduced by these black holes likely catalysed early star formation.  This explains why images from James Webb show fully formed galaxies relatively early in the universe.

JWST observations explore molecular outflows of a nearby merging galaxy
https://phys.org/news/2024-04-jwst-expl … earby.html

NGC 3256 is a starburst galaxy located some 122 million light years away in the constellation Vela. It is composed of two gas-rich disk galaxies in a late-stage major merger and is one of the most luminous nearby systems.

NGC 3256 shows a complex and tidally disturbed morphology, with significantly distorted spiral arms and prominent dust lanes. Previous observations have found that the galaxy has two nuclei: an optically unobscured northern nucleus with signs of starburst activity and a southern heavily obscured, low-luminosity nucleus or a nascent active galactic nucleus (AGN). Moreover, molecular hydrogen outflows originating from these nuclei have been detected.

A group of astronomers led by Thomas Bohn of Hiroshima University in Japan has recently investigated these outflows in NGC 3256, in order to assess their kinematics and energetics, and to evaluate their impact on the local interstellar medium (ISM). For this purpose, they employed JWST's Near-InfraRed Spectrograph (NIRSpec) and Mid-Infrared Instrument (MIRI).

"With JWST, we can now perform the most detailed, spatially resolved analysis of outflowing warm H2 gas to date in NGC 3256. The unprecedented spatial resolution of JWST enables us to examine the warm H2 component on scales of ∼40–100 pc," the researchers wrote.

The observations detected warm, outflowing gas of molecular hydrogen in a collimated outflow originating from the southern nucleus. However, no significant outflowing gas of molecular hydrogen originating from the northern nucleus has been identified.

Re: Singularity - Black Holes, Gamma Rays, Magnetars, etc

Lasers under development may have sufficient power to 'break the vacuum'.
https://www.forbes.com/sites/startswith … 0a1aaff4b0

This occurs when electric field strength is locally great enough to create matter - antimatter pairs out of virtual particles in the vacuum.  This would allow efficient conversion of energy into matter and antimatter.  If carried out sufficiently close to a target, laser light would be converted into gamma-rays, which could drive inertial confinement fusion and even direct spallation of heavy nuclei.

In space, we may ultimately build much larger structures than we ever could on Earth.  A cavity many km across enclosed with some sort of cavity laser, could concentrate light to intensity that is unachievable on Earth.  This may eventually allow the efficient conversion of laser energy into proton-antiproton pairs.  This would be an antimatter factory.  Antimatter has enormous energy density as fuel.  Also, small quantities of antimatter would be useful in triggering inertial confinement fusion, allowing the creation of compact fusion drives suitable for Starships and rapid cross solar system travel.  A bit like the Epstein drive on the Expanse series.

Re: Singularity - Black Holes, Gamma Rays, Magnetars, etc

I found your post to be hopeful, but I know only a little about fusion.

I know of Deuterium/Tritium.

I think that Helion hopes to do Deuterium/Deuterium fusion to make Tritium which will decay into Helium 3.
They also intend to do Deuterium/Helium 3 to make power.

But I have seen mention of Protium/Boron fusion, which is interesting as apparently it uses regular hydrogen.

by TAE Technologies

This is somewhat harder than methods using Deuterium, I seem to read.  But I also read that using Helium 3 is very hard.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boron

I am wondering if it could be gotten out of Mars ancient water deposits of from Cryovolcanoes.

Eris is thought at this point to have Cryovolcanoes: https://arstechnica.com/science/2024/02 … ly-active/

Some of the icy moons of the solar system may have had upwellings of salty water, so maybe it could be in surface ice that is frozen brine.

You mentioned large structures, for some of the machines of the future, so this all came to mind.

So, then Laser>Anti Matter>Fusion?

Done

Just some long shots.  It does appear that Boron can be had on Mars, or it has been detected in the salt remnants that ground water left behind.

I have to wonder about Mercury and Ceres.  Each may have had oceans of water on them early on which I expect did not last long.  I have read that that is true for Ceres, and if Mercury formed near Mars originally, then it may have had short lived oceans as well.

I am thinking that Hydrogen/Boron might be good for spacecraft propulsion.

This is interesting: https://spectrum.ieee.org/aneutronic-fusion

This one seems to use both lasers and magnetic fields: Quote:

HB11
Australia-based HB11’s reactor concept uses high-powered lasers combined with magnetic confinement to fuse hydrogen and boron. The approach makes use of ultrashort pulses of chirped-pulse-amplification lasers—the subject of the 2018 Nobel Prize in Physics—to rapidly accelerate hydrogen through a boron fuel within a trapping magnetic field, creating a fusion event when they collide.

But I am not sure how much radiation danger your mentioned laser process would impose.

But of course, for Mars the use of Deuterium for power reactors makes sense as you can have plenty of shielding and places to dispose of radioactive waste.

I have I have not bothered you Calliban.

New accreting millisecond X-ray pulsar discovered
https://phys.org/news/2024-05-accreting … ulsar.html

Astronomers report the discovery of a new pulsar using the Spektr-RG space observatory. The newfound object, designated SRGA J144459.2−604207 (or SRGA J1444 for short), turns out to be a bursting accreting millisecond X-ray pulsar. The finding was detailed in a paper published April 30 on the pre-print server arXiv.

This mission got disturbed by a lot of political controversy since the Russian Invasion of Ukraine,  telescope eROSITA Wolter X-ray, instruments blocked then allowed, a telescope switched off and then switched back on? the Operations of eROSITA were briefly? suspended in February 2022 after the Russian invasion into Ukraine upon request from Germany, 2022, Russia said they turned off one of the two telescopes aboard Spektr-RG (presumably eROSITA) as a response to the German reaction to the Russian invasion of Ukraine
https://www.spacedaily.com/reports/Russ … s_999.html
"Taking into account the completely unacceptable actions of our German colleagues, primarily the German Centre for Aviation and Cosmonautics, I turned off one of the telescopes of our space observatory 'Spektr-RG', which is located at a distance of 1.5 million kilometres from Earth at the La Grange point L2. This is a completely civilian international mission to explore the starry sky", Rogozin elaborated, saying that Russia has all the essential resources to conduct the experiments by itself.

Rogozin was dismissed from the position of the head of Roscosmos, he has since moved or was sent to Ukraine? Rogozin had been posting strange 'Flat Earth' type stuff online and made strange statements, expressed doubt that the US Apollo 11 mission really landed on the Moon.
